Designed by the renowned architect JJ Burnet, this remarkably distinguished Arts & Craft semi-detached cottage is 'A' listed as being of outstanding architectural & historical importance. It accommodates 4 people within a twin and a double room.

The cottage is incredibly pretty, has oodles of character and retains many original fixtures and fittings, including a real open fire in the lounge, yet has recently been refurnished to provide excellent modern facilities.

The Dolls Cottage enjoys a superb location, alongside the coastal road which is only five minutes walk to the beach. You will find a small fenced cottage garden to the front and lawned areas enclosed by woodland and ample parking to the rear. From the attractive front verandah you can sit and enjoy fantastic westerly views and the most sublime sunsets over the coastal plain towards the highlands and islands beyond. Truly spectacular!

Killean Estate is an exceptional Scottish country estate, beautifully situated on the west coast of the Kintyre Peninsula. Spread over approx 5,000 acres, the land encompasses over 1 mile of coastline and beaches and rises gradually to about 1,200 feet at its highest point, from where there are many vantage points enjoying panoramic views over the sea to the highlands and islands beyond, all the way to Northern Ireland!

The landscape is dramatically varied with farmland, tree-clad lower slopes, woodland policies, and the heather clad Killean Hill where there are rocky outcrops and tranquil hill lochs. Killean Estate also has a number of interesting Iron Age sites, including Burial stones and chambers, cup and ring marked stones and the remains of a prehistoric fort. The ruins of the original 12th Century church of Killean and Killkenzie, one of the oldest in Scotland is beside the Killean burn. This huge expanse certainly makes for fantastic, highly entertaining walks, right from the doorstep and an opportunity to explore without seeing another person all day!

For those with an interest in countryside sports, complementary trout fishing can be enjoyed on the estate's lochs or from the gorgeous sandy beach, where you might also spot a seal, basking in the sun on the rocks. Excellent shooting can also be arranged on the estate - from a day's clay pigeon, to grouse shooting or deer stalking. The estate also runs a successful farming enterprise with sheep, Highland and Aberdeen Angus cattle grazing on the land.

Whilst the estate is situated within the highlands of Scotland, the Kintyre Peninsula benefits from the Gulf Stream, a warm flow which stretches across the Atlantic Ocean from the Caribbean, bringing with it a temperate climate, so it is usually far warmer here then the rest of Scotland, and even allows for tropical plants to grow within the gardens!

Accommodating a verandah, small hall, dining kitchen, lounge and bathroom on the ground floor, the two bedrooms are accessed via a steep narrow staircase with a rope handrail, which whilst quaint and feature-some, certain people may find difficult to climb/descend. Most people on the other hand find that the stairs makes the holiday great fun!

The Dolls House is pet-friendly and allow dogs. Kennel facilities are also available.

Kintyre is on the extreme west coast of Scotland within the fantastic region of Argyll. It is joined to the mainland by a narrow isthmus at Tarbert and has all the characteristics of island living without the inconvenience and expense of essential ferry crossings, although Kintyre is accessible by both road and ferries.

If you've never been to this gorgeous part of the world, then you are surely missing out. The sunsets here are to die for and there is certainly plenty of things to see and do during your stay.... quite often our guests say a week just isn't long enough here!

Tayinloan

The Kintyre Peninsula is about forty miles long and contains fantastic family days out, plenty of things to do and see and Scottish attractions making Kintyre an attractive family holiday destination. On your journey to and around Kintyre you will find the stunning hills & lochs, sandy beaches and stunning sunsets, history and archaeology, and of course seafood which have made this part of Scotland famous. Additionally there are small extras that make Kintyre almost unique; the palm trees in Campbeltown shows the effect of the Gulf Stream, low rainfall (less than 40% of the rest of the west of Scotland), rare golden eagle nesting sites (the most expensive eagles in the world), the absence of traffic jams (our one traffic warden is the last example of an endangered species), two world class golf courses on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean featuring the 'best first hole in the world', and a great established Scottish walk that has to be attempted. Kintyre's a land which is the very cradle of Celtic Scotland, and much more bedsides.

There's plenty to see and do in the area. A boat trip to Gigha is highly recommended where we suggest you hire the bicycles from the beach-shack, tour the Achamore Gardens and take lunch at the boathouse overlooking the bay. A 25-minute drive north from Killean Estate will take you to Tarbert harbour, home of some of Scotlands finest restaurants, and if you continue another 15-minutes onto Skipness, you'll discover a castle, fabulous bay and our previous guest's top-rated destination for seafood. A short trip south from Killean will uncover horse-riding and a historic house at Glenbarr, a couple of superb surfing beaches at Westport and Machrihanish, the Mull of Kintyre and the harbour town of Campbeltown which has plenty to do - whiskey tours, museums, leisure swimming pool, pubs and the opportunity of boat trips such as whale watching. If golf is your bag, there's plenty of choice - there are five course nearby including Owd Tom's famous Machrihanish Links! But why not take a quick tour around the Kintyre Trail and find out for yourself?
