Home description
Spring Cottage was believed to be built in the 1850s and was sympathetically extended in the 1990s. It retains many of the original features including a large stone inglenook fireplace in the sitting room which now houses a multi-fuel woodburner. Brentor is a peaceful village with the open moorland being only a short walk away. It is a perfect place from which to explore Dartmoor! Cycle Route 27 passes directly outside. Tavistock is easily reachable in 10 minutes by car and there is also a regular bus service that leaves hourly for Tavistock, Plymouth, Okehampton and Barnstaple. There are 2 bedrooms which sleep up to 5 people so perfect for families or groups of friends. Tavistock has its Pannier Market which is well worth a look and local attractions include Morwellham Quay, Lydford Gorge, Okehampton Castle and the famous Brentor Church, St Michael de Rupe. It is a perfect base from which to explore Cornwall too, with the Eden Project being only an hour and a half drive away.

The West Country / Devon region
Unspoilt and wild in places, Devon is a beautiful place. The mild climate brings spring flowers bursting to life with warm days long into the autumn. Dartmoor is the setting for Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's celebrated Sherlock Holmes story - The Hound of the Baskervilles. Exhibits can be viewed at the Dartmoor National Park High Moorland Visitor Centre at Princetown in the heart of the moor. Devon, which is located on the south west pennisula of mainland Britain, benefits from the effects of the Gulfstream, which means that the climate is mild throughout most of the year. Brentor is an ideal pace from which to explore the rugged tors and expanses of wild Dartmoor. It is perfect for cyclists as there are many Cycle Routes here. There is plenty of places for the Fisherman and the Golfer to go. There are Pubs to visit, towns such as Tavistock to explore, Historic sites to see and numerous attractions to take in. The list is endless, you’ll have to come and see for yourselves.
Tavistock / Dartmoor area
Tavistock is the nearest town and was voted the country's best Market Town in 2004, Tavistock’s indoor Pannier Market and varied speciality and local shops offer a great day out shopping. There are plenty of cafés, restaurants and pubs, and a farmers’ market every fortnight. Rich in history, the town developed around the Abbey founded in 974, and later grew with the 19th century copper boom. 900 years ago, Tavistock was granted a charter for a Friday market by Henry I - and Friday markets continue to this day! Find out more at the Town Museum. Tavistock was the birthplace of the great 16th century mariner, Sir Francis Drake. Today you can follow Drake's Walk through the Meadows and along the 19th century canal or the Viaduct Walk on the former rail line high above the town. Meadowlands houses an indoor swimming pool and the nearby Wharf presents cinema, music and drama. There is car parking throughout the town, and regular bus links from Plymouth and the surrounding area. Tavistock also lies on the Devon Coast to Coast Cycle route and the West Devon Way.
