Home description

Situated in the sleepy hamlet of Corte Antonio Martins, you will lose yourself in the peace and quiet of an obviously untouched part of the Eastern Algarve. You can laze around the pool by day watching the farmers in the fields and the livestock gently grazing close by. There are other houses in the village with locals who are friendly and will always say good morning!

Renovated from an old farmhouse, this dwelling now offers an good sized apartment with 3 spacious bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchenette and a lounge with Flat Screen TV, SKY and Internet access, combining traditional décor with modern technology! The pool area offers great relaxation during the day and with dining table and chaiss and a covered dining area, evening 'al fresco' dining is a must!

Perfect for families, couples or friends, thus is a reasonably priced accommodation with comfortable furnishings and facilities, ideal for relaxing, get away from it all breaks. Car hire is essential.

The Algarve / East Algarve region

With its stunning coastline, excellent golf courses and pleasant year round climate, the Algarve's 200 kilometre stretch of southern shoreline has become one of Europe's most popular holiday destinations. Bordered on two sides by the Atlantic Ocean, the Algarve is divided from the rest of Portugal by a series of low lying mountains. In the east, the Guadiana River forms a scenic border with neighbouring Spain.

There is a clear definition between the Western Algarve and the East. Whilst the West shows more development towards tourism, the Eastern Algarve and its tidal marshlands still have a tranquil beauty, and the small resorts along the coast have retained much of their character, looking today as they must have looked long ago. Here, tourism blends in perfectly with local activities creating a relaxed way of life. There is a tinge of excitement and even romance about the ferry boat trips to the beach islands, where visitors are rewarded with superb, less crowded bathing beaches and warm waters.

The sea water temperature is around 14c in January and reaches a high 22c in August. A pleasant sea breeze refreshes the temperatures of the region, which are around 15c in January and up to 28c or more in July and August. The Algarve can also count on around 3.000 hours of Sun during the year which makes it a favourite destination for those who fancy such a sunny climate. The autumn and winter months are mild, but you will need a jacket in the evening and some kind of heating in your apartment or hotel room. January is the coolest month of the year.


Tavira / Corte Antonio Martins area

Corte Antonio Martins a small village within the hills district of Tavira. Although not totally isolated, the house is in a tranquil setting where car hire is essential for grocery shopping. Approximately 1km away you'll find 'Casa de Pasto Fernandes' - a good quality Portuguese Restaurant serving fish and meat. The is also a bar that welcomes visitors. For a greater choice of restaurants, shops and bars, the town of Vila Nova de Cacela is only 6kms South and offers facilities including supermarkets, bus stops, train station and a bank. It should be noted that there is little evidence of tourism - this is a quiet location with friendly locals and reasonable prices - but with something for everyone! Every 3rd Sunday of the month, the town becomes a bustling hive of activity where there is a huge visiting market selling everything from fresh local produce to clothes, leather goods and hardware! A taste of the real Algarve!

THE BEAUTIFUL TOWN OF TAVIRA
When staying in this accommodation a visit to the beautiful town of Tavira is essential! You will not fail to be enthralled by its unspoilt charm, character and tranquility. As you wander along the cobbled streets, you'll see an abundance of history dating as far back as 2000BC. A Roman bridge links the 2 parts of the town across the River Gilao, its sides decorated with traditional old bars and restaurants where you can relax and enjoy a peaceful drink or meal. Horse drawn carriages and a small train operate around the town and are perfect for sightseeing and enjoying the peaceful ambience. The many churches (37 in total!), the town castle and the typical fisherman's harbour leading to the River Formosa Natural Park are all places to visit, along with the wonderful daily market selling fresh home grown produce. Tavira Island and its wonderful beach is accessible by ferry boat from the town and offers excellent facilities with a wonderful holiday atmosphere.

LOCAL BEACH

There is an abundance of excellent clean beaches close by. Our best recommendation is Manta Rota easily reached by car, and here you will find golden sands, rolling sea, sunbeds for hire and a selection of beautiful beachside restaurants - as well as plenty of walking space! In high season. the large central square adjacent to the beach holds live events including music concerts, market stalls and beach parties. In addition, the Manta Rota Beach Club hosts a large and unusual venue in the shape of golf ball which has dancing and music inside with world famous DJs and live acts! - Great fun for the younger generation who seek a little night life!

OTHER THINGS TO SEE AND DO

…….by travelling a little further afield there are a good range of things to do to suit all tastes. For nature lovers there are forest walks, cruises along the River Guadiana or natures trails along the Ria Formosa Reserve where bird watching is in abundance! By travelling towards the West there are some excellent shopping centres in Faro and Ghia as well as the famous Water Parks and Zoo Marine (wonderful for children), all easily reached by car (around 45 minutes) or by day trip coach. From this property it is easy to take a day trip to Spain. The lovely border town of Ayamonte is not far by car, and once there you can sample the delights of another country, including wine, tapas and excellent shopping. Or you can travel by car, local bus or train to Vila Real de Santo Antonio and from there take the 15 minute ferry crossing to Ayamonte. For the more adventurous the vibrant city of Seville is approx 170km away. For budding historians the Castle at Castro Marim is worth a look.


How to get there

It is becoming increasingly easy to travel to the Algarve where the main airport is Faro. The most favoured budget airlines are Easyjet, Thomsonfly, Jet2.com, Bmi Baby, Ryan Air, Aer Lingus and Monarch. The best website that we can recommend is www.skyscanner.net where you can select your chosen dates and preferred departure airport and you are presented with a 1 simple list of all available flights, the operator names and the prices! The house has 2 entrances, 1 from the drive and 1 from the poolside. Both lead to the lounge area which is cosy and dominated by a large Flat Screen TV which offers BBC Freeview -great for the kids! To the side of the lounge is the twin bedroom, overlooking the pool. To the other side is the kitchen, which whilst small in size, is fully equipped for a self catering holiday. This leads to the house shower room. The extended part of the house comprises 2 spacious double bedrooms, 1with a beautiful en suite shower room. Each has a small balcony and overlooks the gardens. The house is comfortable in furnishings and is also air conditioned throughout.

Further details outdoors:
The track to the road is not tarmaced but is totally drivable. There is a large driveway leading to the house with ample parking for cars. Surrounding the house are newly planted gardens, still yet to mature, but with lawns and grounds for children to play in.

The pool area has terraces all the way around, perfect for sunbathing and relaxing. There is a covered terrace near the house which offers shade for those who prefer it. The pool is rustic in design and has a water feature which is beautiful in the evenings when al fresco dining is highly recommended amongst the stars and the beautiful countryside ambience.

Changeover days are flexible. Normal check in time is 4pm and checkout 10am. These times will only be applied if absolutely necessary and we will accommodate arrival and departure as fully as possible. Villa care company available throughout stay for assistance if required. Linen change and cleaning weekly.
