The Algarve / East Algarve region
The Algarve is known for its beaches that stretch for over 100 miles of golden sand and the larger ones have lifeguard patrols through out the summer.Most of the beaches have bars and restaurants on offering excellent food fresh from the sea and cold drinks and are free to use there is a small charge for hiring the sun loungers and parasols.
The weather in the Algarve is great all year around giving 300 days of sunshine and the beaches offer all water sports for the season.There is also a strong link to the Moors and Romans with the building of roads and fishing towns with deep harbours.
Tavira area
The city of Tavira dates back until the year 2000 BC and still today you can see the Roman and Moors influence. The town was rebuilt in 1777 after a massive earth quake but still retains its cobbled streets with its street side cafes,bars and restaurants from around the world.There are also beaches which you have to get a water taxi to and they offer the total seclusion or cosmopolitan atmosphere.The beaches have very clear water and is warm as its shallow to start but gets deeper the further you go out.The city has a river running through its centre and has a strong fishing culture with a fresh market held every day.
The city is close to a couple of golf courses and a tennis centre with horse riding just down the road.The city centre has a vast array of international flavoured restaurants as well as the typical Portuguese restaurants and has three 4 star hotels that offer music each night open to the public.The Spanish border is only 15 minutes away and can be accessed by ferry or bus service which leaves Tavira daily.The Spanish town of Ayamonte is typical of a fishing town with a daily Arab market and tapas bars and a fresh food market held each day.
The famous Zoo Marine in Albufeira is about 25 minutes away and can be accessed by the free bus service that leaves Tavira daily the Zoo Marine has interactive dolphins and live animal shows water slides for all ages. There are also wildlife conservation areas in tavira protecting birds and fish plus much animal life on little islands.The apartment is set on a residential complex in a quiet area but only minutes away from bars, cafes and a supermarket.
