Tavira / Quinta de Pegada area
Tavira is called 'the prettiest town' in Portugal by the Portuguese. This picuresque location is 25kms from Faro and 20kms from Spain. It is a firm favourite with discerning visitors. Tavira is an ancient and historic town with a Phoenician, Roman and Moorish past. It has a castle, over 35 churches and a superb seven arch Roman bridge.
On both sides of the River Gilão you can find good shopping with local produce, including fresh fish, fruit and vegetables, basket ware, pottery, ceramic tiles, wrought iron work, and cork and shell handicrafts. A friendly welcome is guaranteed. You can while away your time just browsing in the market or sitting peacefully tucking into a freshly made cake at one of the many coffee bars. In Tavira you can set your own pace. It is certainly the most relaxing place that we have ever been. You can also choose from a broad selection of excellent restaurants and wine bars on the river front or in the fascinating cobbled side streets.
How to get there
Our apartment is only 28kms. from Faro Airport. The maximum journey time by car or taxi is 25 minutes. Faro is well serviced by the economy airlines including easyJet, Jet2, Monarch, Thomson who all operate out of UK airports and offer some great deals. To get from the airport to Quinta de Pegada you can use one of the many car hire companies available. We use Travelrent which you can find on www.travelrent.pt. The average cost of a small car is 80euros per week (Low Season) and 130euros per week (High Season). You can contact the owner Mario directly by e-mail at travelrent@sapo.pt.com for a quote. Resorthoppa is another company who offer a transport service that can be booked in advance at www.resorthoppa.com. The cost to the apartment is £14.75 per person return. Taxis are also available at the airport as well as a bus and rail service from Faro to Porta Nova which is the nearest railway station to the apartment.
