The Algarve / East Algarve region
The Eastern Algarve is relatively unspoilt and retains a great deal of the traditional Portuguese way of life. The area abounds in nature reserves, natural pine forests and conservation areas allowing birds & nature to flourish. North of the villa is an area of outstanding natural beauty alongside the Guadiana river, past the great dams of Beliche and Odeleite and on up to Alcoutim. Here can be found artisans still practising the ancient techniques of crafts such as blanket weaving, shawl & lace making, and straw hat & basket weaving. Nearby and to the west is the pretty town of Tavira, with its castle and a multitude of churches, now enjoying renewed prosperity from tourism and fishing. The local beaches are "to die for" and yet are so uncommercialised, apart from the welcome existence of the occasional restaurant, positioned right on the sands, serving local, freshly-caught fish and seafood.
Tavira area
Tavira is an attractive and historic town on the Gilao River. The town was originally Islamic, but in 1242 it was taken by King Paia Peres. It became an important port, but declined due to a number of economic and geograhic factors, including silting of the river. There is an ancient castle, 18th century buildings and a local market. The local fishing boats still supply the town's restaurants and the harbour provides an interesting backdrop to the town. In addition there are a number of attractive churches, and you can climb up to the remains of the castle and view the town from the walls. Tavira is located between Faro and the Spanish border (which is 23 km away), south of the IP1 motorway.
How to get there
There are many budget airlines that fly to Faro. Alternatively one can fly to either Seville or Lisbon and drive to the Algarve. It takes approximately one and a half hours from Seville (motorway all the way) . Nearest Airport: Faro 30km

Further details indoors: The apartment is on the third floor of a new luxury development and has a large roof terrace of 60 sq. metres. Access to both is by lift or stairs and the apartment features a sight & sound intercom security system. The centre of the apartment features a bright & spacious lounge/dining room. Full length west facing windows provide view of the wonderful mountain scenery, made even more dramatic by the setting sun. The lounge features leather sofas and a large dining table with 6 leather chairs. A side board houses games, cards, binoculars and a selection of local maps and informationA spacious fully fitted and well equipped kitchen opens off the living room. The kitchen has everything you would need from electric food mixer to cookery books, should you feel creative! Patio doors lead from the kitchen to the west facing balcony, which has a table & chairs, brolly and built in barbeque. The principal double bedroom has an en suite bathroom with a shower and Jacuzzi bath. Patio doors open onto a small balcony. The second double bedroom also has a small balcony. The third room is a twin bedroom. These two bedrooms share the house bathroom which has a Jacuzzi shower. All the bedrooms have fitted wardrobes with plenty of hanging space and all face east. A flight of stairs or the lift will bring you to the large private roof terrace (60 sq metres) which has electricity, water and light and is equipped with garden furniture as described above. Car parking is available outside the apartment block
