The ceilings are all restored to original cane thatch so keeping it cooler in the hotter months, lots of patio area's.

The Algarve / East Algarve region

The Eastern Algarve is not as developed as the western Algarve so it retains more old world charm and less fish and chip cafes!, apart from the freshly caught variety!
The region is part of the Ria Formosa which is a very beautiful natural wildlife reserve, so many coastal area's cannot be developed hence hardly any high rise yet!
The Blue Flag beaches are stunning white sand, and stretch for miles with beach cafes and restaurants dotted along the way,
Inland there are gently rising hills with wonderful views of the coast and pretty villages nestling in the hillsides.
Villa Real is a very pretty town sitting on the river that devides Portugal and Spain, it is famous for its linen and towels plus you can catch the ferry (5 min's) across to Ayamonte in Spain!
Spain is a stones throw away from Tavira and Ayamonte is a town worth visiting for its narrow streets, market, different culture, plus lots of good cheap Spanish wine!
There is an off road 4x4 excursion from here over the sand dunes and beaches
There is a Fast Train to Lisbon from Faro if you want to visit Lisbon even for a day, and very cheap!
Temperatures on the Eastern Algarve tend to be a little higher than the western side usually from May - October you can virtually guarantee sunshine, But then the Algarve is famous for all year round sunshine! We have seen people sunbathing on the beach in January!

Tavira / Serro Da Zorro area

Our property sits atop a hill overlooking the Asseca Valley to the rear and the coast to the front. Serro Da Zorra means "Hill of the Fox" We love the peace and tranquility, and are sure you will too, saying that the house is only 5 minutes from Tavira its great!
We have a very "different" style restaurant within walking distance of the house it is a must!! and not expensive, kids are welcome, he only seats about 16 max so its quite intimate.
The river Gilao flows out of the Asseca and cuts through Tavira. Just at the back of our house about 3 miles away there is beautiful waterfall (even in summer!) where you can take a picnic and go for walks. In fact there are loads of places to walk right outside our gate.
Tavira is a beautiful town and is fiercly protective of its heritage the buildings are restored not pulled down! The streets are narrow and cobbled with many small bars and restaurants.
The river divides the town, so many of the bars/restaurants are by the river along with the fishing boats!
The main square hosts craft fairs, dances, local bands and many other celebrations during the summer months.
At the far end of the town is the small ferry terminal for Tavira Island, a 5 minute journey, where there are bars, restaurants, sunbeds and shades, the beach is so long and backed by sand dunes you can get away from the crowds, if you do come across any! The last ferry back is about 11pm. You can also pick up a water taxi to Cabanas a fishing village 5 minutes down the coast.
The market is a must on Saturday not only to buy the fresh produce but to people watch too!
There is also a small train to take you on a tour around Tavira
Weather in Tavira is pretty hot in July/August, but there is always the beach, and the top decking at the house! or the hammock! The Algarve is famous for its all year sunshine, it does rain sometimes and sometimes pretty hard but usually never in the summer. Saying that we have sat outside for breakfast in January many times!

How to get there

The house is about 35 minutes drive from Faro Airport, most budget airlines fly into Faro from all over UK. It is about 2 hours drive from Seville airport where Ryan air fly to.

Further details indoors:
The house is one of the oldest in the area, it is sad but most old houses are being knocked down these days as it is cheaper to build new so we are proud of our renovations! The outside patios run from the front to the back of the house and across to the Barn/studio's there is patio furniture and benches on all the patio's, there is also plenty of shade from the old Carob trees with a hammock for siesta's! The roof terrace is up some steps outside and has breathtaking views down to the Asseca Valley and to the hills beyond. To the front are views of the sea, infact all around the property there are far reaching views. The pool is across the carob shaded gravel parking area at the front of the house, there is a split level decked area around the pool at the back is a raised, thatched covered area which catches the breeze, there are plenty of sunbeds etc, the pool area also has lighting.Sorry but pool towels are not provided. The mature garden is full of olive and fruit trees, there are no other houses that over look the property.

Further details outdoors:

Plenty of patio furniture and sun beds and some pool toys for children.
