The Algarve / East Algarve region
East Algarve is still wild, offering wonderful wilderness landscapes on the sea side in the Ria Formosa Nature Reserve, including quiet beaches in summer. All water sports are available in the local area, as well as hiking in the hills amid the wild flowers in springtime. The area is also a paradise for golfers.
Tavira / Cacela Velha area
You can walk along the sea to the historic village of Cacela Velha with its fort facing the sea. There is also an endless beach of thin white sand, perfect for relaxing and sunbathing. Cacela Velha is a fishing village, and therefore boasts nice seafood restaurants and a cafe.
Tavira is an old city with a vibrant cultural life, museums and concerts. It is full of cafes and restaurants which are open and buzzing all year round.
How to get there
By car: take the Freeway Via do Infante. At Tavira exit in the direction of Vila Real de Santo Antonio. Turn right for Cacela Velha.
By air, Faro airport is 45 minutes away, and Seville airport is 90 minutes away. Airlines serving the airports include TAP Air Portugal, British Airways, Iberia, Air Berlin, Itu, Monarch, Easyjet, Ryanair, Click Air.
Alternatively, take the train or bus to Vila Nova de Cacela.
