The Algarve has about 100 sandy attractive beaches washed by the Atlantic Ocean and due to the maritime shelf and water currents the sea temperature can be surprisingly warm.Located on the tip of Europe with the vast ocean of the Atlantic as its southern and western border, this enviable position gives this region possibly the most unpolluted climate on the continenent.
Tavira / Luz de Tavira area
Approx 30km from the Spanish Border. Luz de Tavira is a few minutes from the bustling town of Tavira with shops, restaurants and bars.
Barril Beach is a 5 minute drive which has shops, restaurants, toilets and is part of the Ilha de Tavira on an 11km stretch of golden sandy beach where you can just relax in the sun or take part in watersports.
The nearest golf course is a ten minute drive with plenty of choices. There is a fresh fish/meat market a short drive away. The local Village of Luz is a short drive or walking distance with Supermarket, Bank with cash machine, Chemist. Buses & trains or taxis are all close by but a car is useful for days out further afield. Just 300 meters from the house is family run cafe, rustic in appearance but excellent meals at very good value for the whole family.
How to get there
A selection of 'low cost' airlines fly daily scheduled flights, such as British Airways, Monarch, Easy Jet, XL.com from all major UK airports. Flight time approx 2 and half hours. The house is around 30 mins & 30 km form Faro airport, either by the coastal road (N125) or the Mototrway. A drive is approximately 2 days from U.K with a stop over recomended and one ferry crossing plus tolls. We can recommend our ususal car hire Company or when booking flights, several options are on view for car hire firms, such as Budget. We can also arrange a personal pick up/drop off from airport from some of our resident English neighbours.
