The open plan living room and kitchen are on the ground floor. The high roof terrace benefits from the abundant Algarvian sunshine in the afternoon and evening. There are two more double sofa beds if needed, one in the lounge and another on the first floor.

The Eastern Algarve, particularly around Tavira, is a beautiful unspoilt area, with 18km of uncrowded fine sandy beaches and islands, ancient Moorish towns, Castles and charming, almost timeless traditional villages nestling in rolling hills.
The climate in the Algarve is mild throughout the winter months and spring. From March/April it gets warmer in the evenings and by high summer temperatures can reach up to the mid 30s (degrees Celsius) during the day.
Beaches in the Eastern Algarve are wide, sandy and safe for children. They belong to the nature reserve 'Ria Formosa' and are renowned for their wildlife, dunes and river life. The nearest beaches from Tavira are about 3 kms. They can be reached by foot, car, small ferry boat or by a little train, depending on which beach you choose to visit.
Tavira Island has a good selection of restaurants and bars plus a camping ground and is more active in the high season. There is an hourly boat service. Refreshments and meals, sun-beds and parasols, are available.
Daytime entertainment for children can be found in the large water parks on the otherside of Faro, which run most of the year due to the good climate.
The Spanish border is only approximatley forty minutes drive from Tavira. Historic Seville is 2 hours drive and, with its ancient palaces, cathedrals and riverside parks and cafes, is well worth a visit.
The Tavira / Central Tavira area
Tavira blends both old and modern ways of life, providing a vast choice of good restaurants, bars and pavement cafes. The town is divided by a river crossed by, amongst others, a beautiful Roman bridge. Tavira remains an authentic and charming tapestry of old and new, a legacy from its colourful past.
Summer brings a variety of outdoor and cultural entertainment to Tavira, including 2 outdoor cinema festivals, the visiting national ballet, and classical concerts and local folk dancing.
Restaurants, cafes and small shops dot the river side.
Tavira has a big supermarket and many shops and amenities plus numerous restaurants, bars and cafes.
There are many beautiful sites in and around Tavira, including waterfalls and hill top hamlets. Fresh water streams, small waterfalls and rivers merge with the warmest seas of the Atlantic which lines the 18km white sand stretch of semi-duned islands, creating plenty of idyllic pockets to discover... A haven for fishing and cockle picking!
Local activities include boat trips, golf, sailing, tennis, hill walking, horse riding, bird watching, sea fishing, waterslide parks.
A short drive away are several great golf courses with coastal views. More information:www.algarve-golf.info

A lovely bijou town house in a great location within easy walking distance of the town centre, market, railway and bus stations. The accomodation was very clean with everything you would expect and a lot more. We most spent the mornings exploring Tavira on foot (and drinking meia de leites in the town square) then soaking up the late afternoon sunshine on the roof terrace. The roof was also perfect for sundowners before heading back into town for dinner. I'm not sure the seating in the lounge area was comfortable enough for sitting in for prolonged periods but as the weather was so good we didn't need to test it out. Also the toilet cistern was a bit temperamental but these are minor concerns. |

I spent a thoroughly enjoyable week at the Yellow House. It's very homely and very well equiped with all that you need for a week in the sun. On the ground floor is a comfortable living room and well equiped kitchen (i'm talking dish washer, cafetier, sandwich boxes, ice packs etc). I can't say I spent much time in the lounge (complete with guide and language books) because the lure of the roof terrace was too strong (on the top floor). Here, half the space is dedicated to a loft space that had washing machine, parasols, sofa bed for extra guests. The other half, through a glazed door, led to a roof terrace with fantastic 360 degree views of the town. The owners even provided binoculars to enhance the views of the river, salt planes and sea to the south of the property. It's here that I enjoyed alfresco breakfasts and, one evening, a BBQ using the equipment that was all provided. As the highest house in the street it offers a very private sunbathing terrace too. The middle floor has 2 well appointed bedrooms and a bathroom. The double bedroom has a wall safe (all inlcuded in the price) which was handy. The property is 5 minutes walk to the town centre ferry to the beach (1.9 Euro return) and sometimes i walked to Quatro Aguas to catch a shorter ferry journey (1.5 Euro return). There is a great selection of restaurants, bars, cafes and minimarkets in the town as well as a municipal food market 5 minutes away and a shopping mall and hypermarket 15 minutes walk away across the river. I found the best 'local' restaurants on the other side of the river, which seems less touristy. I hope to go back next year. The rental agent is very helpful and friendly and i would recommend the hastle-free taxi transfer at 45 Euro each way. |
