Self catering 3-bed villa. Peaceful location nr Tavira, Portugal. Great views, full mod-cons, private pool.

Casa Marta is a comfortable three double bedroom house, built in a simple Portuguese style. It boasts great views of the Atlantic and the nearby hills and it offers full mod-cons, from fully equipped kitchen, through air conditioning, to a private swimming pool and a large, secluded garden.

Its location really is stunning - up a little lane in an area of soft hilly terrain, with an abundance of cork, almond, carob and olive trees and only a couple of neighbours nearby. The local restaurant - in a real, Portuguese style, serves locals and tourists alike with generous portions of local delicacies.

The villa is only 4km away from the beautiful town of Tavira, where supermarkets, restaurants, bars, etc. can be found. Tavira in itself is worth a visit, or two, as it is charming and really friendly. You'll find you can access one of the many beaches from there.

There are many more activities for you to dabble in, from golf, sailing, tennis, horse riding, windsurfing, through to local festivals, markets and other events. For more information, visit

The Algarve region

East Algarve is tranquil and beautiful, with a relaxed atmosphere and fantastic amenities. It is also generally cheaper than many other European destinations. The weather is warm and mild in winter months, while in the summer temperatures can reach 40C in the sun. May, September and October aren't as hot; however, June to August are pleasant due to the steady Atlantic breeze.

There is plenty to do in the area. The more active types can enjoy golf, tennis, horse riding, water sports and many more other activities. If you are interested in history and architecture then you will be spoilt for choice. The old town in Faro, the Moorish Silves Castle or the stunning Estoi Palace are just a few of the nearby attractions.

If you feel like venturing further afield, you could make a day trip to Spain. Drive to Villa Real De San Antonio and take the short ferry crossing across the river to Spain. You could also go to Gibraltar or the stunning Seville. And if you would rather have a truly Portuguese experience, why not visit Lisbon, which is now only 3 hours away by express train from Faro.

Tavira is one of the most architecturally beautiful towns in the Algarve. Its old buildings, narrow cobbled streets and historical sites give it a charming character that will come to embrace you. Its sandy beaches can be accessed by a small boat, which ferries people all day.

Other nearby towns are also worth a visit – try Olhao and its markets (on water front) full of fresh, local and cheap produce. Cabanas and Pedras del Rey – small fishing villages are also worth a visit, as well as Santa Luzia, where you are guaranteed to find catch of the day in almost every water-front restaurant.

The Portuguese seem to believe in simple but fresh food. You will find many basic-looking restaurants but don’t be put off by their appearance, as they tend to serve the best food and, often, very cheap. Try the Taberna Basillio (just by Casa Marta) – often praised by our guests. There are plenty of good restaurants in central Tavira, Luz de Tavira, Olhao and pretty much everywhere with tables and chairs will serve decent food.

Every town also has many festivals and market days throughout the summer. Tavira, as an example, will hold popular saints festivities through June, a handicraft festival in August and a folklore one in September. However, there are plenty of towns and nearby villages’ celebrations pretty much all summer and you are almost guaranteed to come across a street event every weekend. The Tavira market day is every third Monday of a month.

"Wonderful holiday villa in rural area"

Casa Marta is the perfect holiday villa in a quiet area. We travelled with our 3 sons of 8,10 and 13 years old. When we arrived, the owner already provided us with a complete welcome package. Everything you need for a perfect holiday is available in this house. The swimming pool is nice and refreshing, the kitchen is well equipped, everything is clean and all the bedrooms as well as the living room have airco. The nice restaurant nearby the house (luis do prego) serves great seafood for a small price. What we really enjoyed was that you are away from all the tourists but still close to the beautiful places the Algarve offers. We made a trip to Sevilla (Spain). What a beautiful city! So we were very satisfied with everything.
