There is a cafe and restaurant within easy walk, and a sleepy traditional village 3 mins drive away offers another restaurant, post office, pharmacy, mini-markets, tavernas and cafes. It’s only 6 mins drive from beautiful medieval Tavira with its riverside restaurants, and several uncrowded golden sandy beaches. Casa Santolina has a wonderful tranquil countryside setting where you can completely relax.

The Algarve / East Algarve region
The Eastern Algarve is a beautiful unspoilt area, with miles of uncrowded golden beaches, ancient Moorish towns and picturesque villages.
BEACHES in the eastern Algarve are wide, sandy and safe for children, with the EC Blue Flag for cleanliness. The nearest beach is about 12 minutes drive from Casa Santolina. Refreshments and meals, sun-beds and parasols, are available on all local beaches. Particularly beautiful is Tavira Island which can be reached by a short ferry ride. Most local beaches are within the Ria Formosa Nature Reserve, famed for its flamingoes, rare birds and plants.
The Spanish border is only thirty minutes drive from Casa Santolina, and historic Seville is 1.5 hours drive and, with its ancient palaces, cathedrals and riverside parks and cafes, is well worth a visit.

Distances from Santolina: Nearby village of Santo Estevao is 3 mins drive. Medieval Tavira is 6 mins drive. Spain is only 30 mins away, and Seville is 1.5 hours drive.

TAVIRA TOWN Tavira is a picturesque town, with narrow cobbled streets, beautiful riverside gardens, many restaurants, old palaces, castle ruins and ancient Roman bridge spanning a wide river. There is a large daily vegetable and fish market, a wide variety of small shops, and a good selection of river-side restaurants where you may eat “al fresco”. During the summer evenings Tavira hosts many cultural activities - from the visiting national ballet, and classical concerts in one of Tavira’s ornate ancient churches, to local folk dancing under the stars in the central gardens and jazz at the amphitheatre by the river.

How to get there
Flights to Faro Airport with eg. Aer Lingus (London Gatwick-Faro); EasyJet; British Airways; Monarch; Air 2000; Thompson-fly, etc. Also good fare prices flying Ryan Air from London Stansted to Seville. (Drive takes under 1.5 hrs, Seville to Quinta Serena). Flights also to Cadiz, or Jerez, Spain. Car hire is suggested to get the best out of the Eastern Algarve.

Further details indoors: CASA SANTOLINA has two charming timber-beamed bedrooms, sleeping 4 people. ·The first floor master bedroom has a generous king-size bed (160cm/ 5.5ft wide), and spectacular views of the countryside. En suite shower room. ·A double room with twin beds, and patio doors onto the terrace. Adjoining bathroom with shower.
Bath/shower rooms are decorated with traditional hand-painted Portuguese tiles.
The well-equipped kitchen has fridge, freezer, hob and microwave, and a breakfast bar which separates it from the living room. The delightful timber-beamed living room is comfortably furnished with plump sofas. Patio doors open onto a covered area of the terrace where you can dine ‘al fresco’ overlooking the swimming pool.
Further details outdoors: Casa Santolina stands on hillside with spectacular views of the countryside and orange groves, vineyards and ancient olive trees. The palm-fringed swimming Pool adjoins a wide sunbathing patio, which overlooks the large garden planted with many sub-tropical plants, palms, almonds and pepper trees.
Patio doors open onto the terrace where you can dine alfresco beside the pool, which may be floodlit at night. A terrace runs the length of the house, and is partially-covered providing some shade. Barbecue, sun loungers, patio furniture, parasols are provided. The pool is approximately 6 x 3.5 metres and 90cms deep. Casa Santolina is wonderful place to rest and relax.

Ceiling fans in all bedrooms. There are insect screens on on all windows and doors. Comfortable beds, and plump sofas Digital satellite TV (with BBC programmes, not Sky)
Owner managed, with good attention to detail. Maid service, linen, towels (except for beach/pool) are provided. Cot & highchair available. On day of arrival you may enter villa after 3pm, please vacate the villa by 10am on day of departure. Information file with ideas on local places to go, and things to do.
