About the home

Somerset Yurts is a fantastic eco-friendly retreat nestled on a working Dairy Farm in the beautiful Quantock Hills, an area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB).

Providing stunning accommodation in traditional Mongolian Yurts, our site allows couples and families to get back to nature while enjoying a tranquil break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

The Yurts are luxuriously furnished with Egyptian cotton on your double bed, a power point for charging essential items, a dining area and wood burning stove.

For cooking, each Yurt has its own BBQ and gas stove, or you can use our fully equipped kitchen in the communal Dutch Barn where you will also find flushing loos, and hot showers.

The yurts are situated on a south facing field, with uninterrupted and far reaching views across Taunton Vale and to the Blackdown Hills, and Exmoor beyond.

The yurts have a BBQ, gas stove, and cool box, but you can use the fridge, freezer, and oven in the Dutch Barn facilities. There is also a well equipped bathroom in the Dutch Barn with flushing loos and hot showers.

The yurts are located in a peaceful, rural south facing field with a large fire-pit for campfires.

Conditions

Yurts sleep a maximum of four adults, or two adults and three children.

The West Country / Somerset region

At the heart of the West Country, Somerset is a destination of dramatic coastline, seaside resorts, epic English countryside, and historic places.

Somerset is home to the Somerset Levels & Moors, Exmoor National Park and three Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB)- the Quantock, Blackdown and Mendip Hills.

The Taunton area

Your yurt field and Hill Farm might be all the fun you need, but there are lots of exciting attractions nearby. Here’s a list of our favourites:

Quantock Hills
The farm borders the Quantock Hills, there's a couple of car parks within a 10-15 min drive to allow your to explore some of this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. We'd really recommend you try and include a trip there, even if it's only a quick stop - the views are amazing.

Hestercombe House
Hestercombe Gardens are a short walk away across the fields from the yurt site, and offer an amazing collection of three gardens spanning three centuries of garden history and design. Read some more about the gardens here.

Fyne Court
Fyne Court is a nature reserve leased by the Somerset Wildlife Trust and is the headquarters for the Quantock Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It’s ideal for walks and discovering a wide variety of habitats.

West Somerset Railway
West Somerset Railway is a country branch line of the old Great Western Railway offering a nostalgic ride back in time around the gentle, rolling Quantock hills.

Exmoor
Exmoor National Park is truly one of Britain’s most breathtaking places. Wild landscapes meet soothing tranquillity, and you may even catch a glimpse of wild Red Deer or a native Exmoor Pony.
North Somerset Coast

The North Somerset Coast has something for everyone. From picturesque towns and quaint harbours, to bustling marinas and busy seaside resorts all situated along a stunning stretch of coastline.

Somerset Art Weeks The Art Weeks 2011 will take place from 17 September to 2 October 2011. Exhibition & Event is a new format of countywide festival promoting the achievement of Visual Arts creation in Somerset. It features group exhibitions, projects and visual arts activities in different locations and settings.

Sheppy's Cider
Gone are the days when every farm made its own special cider, but down in the Vale of Taunton Deane in Somerset’s very own Cider County, you’ll find one of the true Farmer Cider makers: Sheppy's of Bradford-on-Tone.

The Monkton Inn
Found down the hill in the local village, just a stone's throw from the farm, The Monkton is warm and welcoming, offering fresh home cooking using local produce, at sensible prices.

The Maypole Inn
The Maypole is slightly further, about 3 miles from the farm - a drive, or a longer walk. Good food and a more spacious area if you just want a drink or two.

We are 15 minutes drive the M5 J24 or J25 and a 10 minute drive from Taunton Train station.
