The Heart of England / Peak District / Lincolnshire region

Lincolnshire is a rural and coastal county in the East Midlands, the county is on the drier side of Britain and tends to have less rainfall than most parts of Britain. To the north east of the county are the Linconshire Wolds an designated area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with their beautiful rolling hills, to the south of the county are the Fens. Lincoln is a beautiful city with a magnificent Cathedral, many old buildings and the Brayford Pool with its waterside bar and restaurants, throughout the county are many market towns and in the north is Grimsby the famous fishing port.

Tattershall is in the heart of the county lying on the southern edge of the Wolds.

Tattershall area

The Tattershall Lakes Country Park is a haven for wildlife especially waterfowl, there are plenty of tranquil places to relax and unwind, for the more active push bikes, peddle go carts, pedalloes, row boats and canoes are avaiable for hire. During the main holiday season the Jetski Shop stocks basic everyday items.

On the site are fishing lakes, a waterski lake and a jetski lake with a cafe and spectator viewing area, a golf course and children's playarea. The club house has a cafe with lakeside terrace, bar and function room which has weekend entertainment throughout the season, also on the site is the Fairways pub and restaurant with children's indoor play area, food is served daily with a carvery on Sundays. Whilst every effort is made to ensure these details are correct you should check directly with Tattershall Lakes Country Park on 01529 348800.
The Tattershall skyline is dominated by the mighty red brick Keep of Tattershall Castle and the magnificent Holy Trinity Collegiate Church.

The keep and moat are all that remain of the castle which was built by Ralph Cromwell in the 1440's and is now in the hands of the National Trust. Spectacular views of the area can be seen from the battlements, on a clear day both Boston Stump and Lincoln Cathedral can be seen.

The Holy Trinity Church, founded in 1438, has Tom Thumbs grave and the remains of some fine medieval stained glass. The house of Tom Thumb can be seen on the ridge of a town house in the Market Square.
There are local pubs and shops in Tattershall and ajoining Conningsby with its busy R.A.F. base.
If you are interested in aviation the Conningsby Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Visitor Centre with a Lancaster, Dakota, two Hurricanes and five Spitfires is just a few miles away. The East Kirkby Air Museum is about 15 minutes drive.

Woodhall Spa Golf Club the home of the English Golf Union is 10 minutes drive, there you will find the Hotchkin Course voted the best course in the U.K. by Golf World magazine, the Bracken Course and the Golf Academy. Also at Woodhall Spa is Jubilee Park with its outdoor heated swimming pool and the Kinema in the Woods.
The market towns of Boston, Louth, Alford, Spilsby, Sleaford and the antiques town of Horncastle are all a short drive away. The historic city of Lincoln (21 miles) with its magnificant Cathedral, Castle and museums is well worth a visit.

The Lincolnshire coast, know as the Funcoast with resorts of Skegness, Mablethorpe, Chapel St Leanards, Sutton on Sea, Trusthorpe and Ingoldmells is 26 miles. Skegness is the premier resort with an award winning six mile beach, fun fair, theatres, bowling greens, seal sanctuary, stock car stadium and much more. At Ingoldmells is the revamped Skegness Butlins is great family day out and open to day visitors, also at Ingoldmells is Fantasy Island theme park with the Millenium Roller Coaster the longest looping roller coaster in Europe and Jubilee Odyssey the worlds longest suspended roller coaster. Open 7 days a week is the vast market.

Close to Skegness is Wainfleet, there you will find the Bateman's Brewery Visitor Centre.
