About this location
The Andalucia region
The Costa de La luz is rich in nature, bird life (ideal for Twitchers / Bird Watchers) and the countryside provides a wealth of opportunities to walk, climb, ride and explore its vantage points. The area is one of the last unspoilt coastlines of Spain and is characterised by the miles of incredible beaches that run from Tarifa to Cadiz.
Aracena House offers a great base to explore this Costa that includes the stunning city of Seville, the sherry town of Jerez and the ancient provincial capital of Cadiz. Meander around the hills of Andalucia to visit the white towns and villages that cling to hillsides or have an altogether different experience and take a day trip or two from Tarifa across to Morocco and discover a different continent.
Aracena House is a ten minute drive to the ancient town of historical Tarifa (ships were charged a tariff for crossing the straits). Tarifa's geographic location provides the perfect wind conditions for wind sport enthusiasts as and those who love nature.
Within the original Moorish walls of Tarifa port town are a maze of restaurants and bars offering something for everyone – traditional tapas to hip interiors. The cobbled streets lead you past boutiques, surf shops, coffee bars and into the bustling market. The 1st weekend of every September hosts the feria, particularly well known for the wonderful congregation of over 500 horses and is well worth witnessing.
This area lies in one of the most crucial migration routes in Europe. millions of birds migrating in and out of Africa, south in Autumn and north in Spring, are funneled through the narrow sea crossing and over the hills close to the house.

"Lovely rugged part of Spain, very comfortable stay and a view to die for."
My husband and I stayed in the first floor apartment which had a big balcony. The view of North Africa was really beautiful and different every day.. We had cooking facilities and the apartment was very clean, we had no trouble with any appliances.
I think it's advisable to either have your own car or hire one which we did. There are many lovely places to go and visit. You can take your time and really explore. We had some very good meals indeed along the coast and in Tariffa . The sangria was fantastic and made everywhere. After being out exploring it was such a relief to go back to our lovely apartment which felt like our own home. Very relaxed and the owner was very welcoming without being intrusive. We hope to go again soon.

"A peaceful escape into nature, perfect to recharge batteries"
It was an ideal spot to get away from it all, at the same time being within easy reach of Tarifa and the Altantic coast on one hand, or the Mediterranean coastline on the other. The countryside all around is very picturesque and the house itself very well presented with pot plants and flowers all around. Jossie is a great hostess and made us completely at home and comfortable in the rustic rooms full of character and charm. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hoping to revisit very soon. Being a fan of Tarifa, this house is ideal being a quiet spot outside of the manic Tarifa summer buzz, but a short 15 minute drive into town.

We have stayed at this studio apartment a couple of times now.
Clean, homely and spacious; bright and airy, with a gorgeous view over the Straits of Gibraltar and of Morocco from the vine-laden terrace.
We will definitely return!

"Handy, friendly place in the hills"
On arriving at Pelayo you'll find a nugget of an apartment. As you wind up the steps to it's terrace you'll be greeted by the extraordinary view of Africa and the Straits of Gibraltar. It is here that you can chillax and take in the views and rays. The apartment within is decked out with furniture in keeping with Southern Spain and it's African counterpart. There's an ensuite shower room, and small kitchenette to cater for your needs, and tiles which are cooling. It's a restful retreat indeed. A healing place!

"Lovely and relaxing time in southern Spain"
Stayed with my husband and son in Pelayo where we met very friendly owner Jossie. Beautiful views, tranquil setting, homemade bread for breakfast. Tarifa and Gibraltar close by for fun and excursions. All of us want to repeat!
