Home description
Great Escapes offers the opportunity of exploring the Costa de la Luz whilst enjoying the natural tranquillity of Andalusian countryside, with breathtaking vistas over beaches that host a variety of wind and kite surfing events. Chalet uno offers a bedroom, spacious bathroom and breakfast bar area that leads out onto a large covered terrace. There is a gas BBQ/grill on the terrace for cooking. Chalet dos is completely open plan with a double and single bed. It has a gas grill on the terrace Chalet tres has twin bed accommodation with separate wc and shower facilites next door. It has a shady terrace with a gas grill. The chalets are so designed and situated that they do not encroach on the privacy of one another and guests are assured their peace and privacy. The beaches and several bar/restaurants are within walking distance, with the local town of Tarifa a 5-minute drive away. Tarifa old town has a Moorish feel which is not surprising as Morocco is just 14 kilometres away across the straits and day trips are easy to arrange. Tarifa has many bars and restaurants with a good cross section of cuisine available, from great tapas to Moroccan to organic eco meals. The night life is lively and has something for most tastes. The old town is full of great shops and lots of cobbled streets with an infinite number of places to enjoy a drink and something to eat. The new town offers all the kite and wind surfing kit imaginable with many places offering lessons and courses. Bikes can be hired in the town, whale watching can be booked and the ferry goes to Tangiers throughout the day offering day trippers an insight into anotehr culture and another world. Tarifa is at the southernmost tip of Europe and it offers a glimpse of what old Spain was like and accommodates the new without sacrificing its customs and daily routines.

The Costa de la Luz / Cadiz Province region
The Costa de la Luz is one of the last bastions of unspoilt Spanish coastline on mainland Spain. Stretching from Gibraltar to the borders of Portugal, it offers a variety of beautiful villages and countryside as well as the most beautiful white sandy beaches, stretching for mile after mile of unspolit coastline. Tarifa is the southernmost tip of mainland Europe and is only 14 kms from Morocco and the coastline of Tangiers. Where the Mediterranean meets the Atlantic offers the best area for wind and kitesurfing and Caribbean style beahes. Whether you are a surfer or just love the sun, sean and sand the area is a revelation. Tarifa and most of the coastal towns on the coast on the way to Cádiz are still fishing villages and you can eat the best seafood at the best prices for miles. Gibraltar is the closest airport with Jerez an hour away and Málaga two hours away.
Tarifa / Torre La Pena area
Tarifa has its own history with Guzman el Bueno having saved the town from the Moors by sacrificing his own son int he process. There is a Moorish old town and a glorious church and castle. The old town offers a maze of cobbled streets and a multitude of bars and restaurants ans shops to keep everyone happy. Other places to visit are Bolonia with the oldest Roman ruins in the area, Vejer a town on a hill with spectacular views, El Palmar a beautiful stretch of beach with a truly chilled out attitude and Zahara de los Atunes, a lovely white village full of restaurants to cope with any palate. From Great Escapes, you can explore the whole of the coast on a day trip, even Jerez de la Frontera with its wonderful May fair and glorious tapas culture. Seville is an hour and a half away and in between you have some of the best natural park the country has to offer, with towns like Medina Sidonia steeped in Moorish history and architecture. Tarifa's own fair is held in the second week in September and offers all the bustle and colour of a typical Andalusian town fair.
How to get there
Driving Instructions to Great Escapes from Malaga Airport: Easy Jet and Ryanair
1 hour 20 mins Coming from Malaga Airport Take the AP7 toll road to the end then past Algeciras, just follow the N340 and go past Tarifa and look out for the Codorniz on your right hand side. After the next bend in the road you will see the sign for Hotel La Pena 150mts and you need to turn right here.
Alternatively, if you are coming from Jerez de la Frontera, you can take the more scenic but much slower route through the Natural Park. You need to follow signs for Medina Sidonia and thereafter to Vejer de la Frontera, where you can then join the N340 and continue as before.
Driving Instructions to Great Escapes from Cadiz.
The quickest way to us from Cadiz is along the N340 coast road. Assume a good hour for your trip as the traffic can be heavy and the road is mainly single carriageway.
You will drive past several coastal towns and once you go past a white village called Facinas on your left hand side, you are about 10 minutes away. You need to look out for the Hurricane Hotel on your left hand side and then for the second turn off the N340 on your left hand side, after the hotel.
As the line is solid on your side of the carriageway it is illegal strictly speaking to turn left off at this point and if the traffic is particularly heavy, we advise going past the turn off and looking out for the Hotel/Restaurant Codorniz on your left and turning into the car park and back onto the N340 at this point. On the way back look out for the turn off on your right sign posted Hotel La Pena 150 mts. At this point you are only 1km away from Great Escapes.
Continue up the asphalt road, crossing the cattle grid and following the bend. Drive on until you get to the first non-asphalt track off the asphalt to your right hand side. At this point Great Escapes will be sign posted on your right. Follow the track down to the bottom and we are behind the black gates.
Safe journey and if you have any queries or encounter any problems on your way to us, please contact us on 659672581
