The White House (cottage)

Home description

This house is a family holiday home with all the facitities needed for a comfortable holiday. During the summer months the outdoor pool will be available as well as the tabletennis set up in the outside barn. The property is set in the centre of a small village with a local shop and several restaurants/bars.

At Christmas, a tree and decorations are provided as well as logs for the fire. With snow on the ground, the property is perfect for the festive season!

The Transdanubia / Pannonia / Somogy/Lake Balaton region

The Kali Basin is part of the Uplands National Park and is very beautiful. The area is geared up with cycle paths and is a gentler pace than the southern side of Lake Balaton. Wine growing region. Bird watchers and painters will find this area of interest. The lake is about 10 mins drive with several "beaches" and activities on the lake include sailing and fishing. Just outside the village is the Sea of Stones, a famous geological site and about 50 mins drive is Heviz, with its thermal lake. Also just down the road is Hungary's only polo club which has matches during the summer months.

Tapolca area

Tapolca is only about 15 mins drive with a Tescos and other smaller supermarkets. There is an excellent butchers in the town as well. Bicycle hire is available to explore the region. The town itself has its underground lake which the kids love to row the boat on. Tihany is a wonderful place to explore and has great views over the lake, as well as from the ruined castle at Szigliget. The coffee shop at the base of the castle does excellent cakes and coffee. The tourist office in Tapolca is a good starting point to find out whats on in the area.

How to get there

Easjet, BA and Malev fly into Budapest every day and the journey time to the house would be about 2 1/2 hours by car.

To book car hire, I would recommend Fox Autorent who speak good English and are very helpful. They have desks at both airports. www.foxautorent.com

To drive from the UK is possible and can be done direct in less than 2 days with a stop overnight in Austria or Germany! Why not extend the trip and take in other European countries en route.

As well as inside dining, during the summer months the outside dining table is mainly used seating 10.
There are three bedrooms with the main house and a twin/double in the "Garden House" with its own shower room. This would be suitable for teenagers or an additional couple.

In the main house downstairs there is a king size bedroom and a bathroom. Upstairs there is a big bedroom with three single beds and is suitable for children. There is also a twin bedroom and a shower room. The landing TV area also has a sofa bed.

The gardens are enclosed with a small swimming pool which is unheated and approx 3 m x 6 m x 1.20 m, BBQ, swingball, sun loungers and an airer.

Bedlinen and indoor towels will be provided per person and will be changed during your stay if specially requested. The caretaker will leave you pretty much alone unless there is a problem and you have contacted me. Access will be needed to check on pool during the summer months and upkeep of garden.

Changeover day is Saturday. For stays shorter than a week out of peak seasons, please enquire. Deposit required 40% of total holiday booking in advance with full payment to be received a month before the start of the holiday let. A refundable deposit of £200 is required to cover any damage, breakage and any loss which will be returned once the property has been checked after departure. A deduction will be made from that should the house not be left in a clean and tidy manner to which you found it and a further clean will be deemed needed. This property sleeps 9 very comfortably; however an additional small double bedroom can be available should your party be 10.
