“A HIDDEN TREASURE” GUEST’S COMMENTS
Villa Galante, with its spectacular views of the sea, is located in a quiet green area approximately 800 meters from the busy village centre. It is the perfect place to relax and let the beauty of the sea replenish and restore. Although completely refurbished all of the rooms have some Sicilian antiques that recall the rustic origins of what once was a family winery (as verified by the local goat herder a spry 90 year old who was born there) . Today the family kitchen stands where the wine vats once were and the owners bottle their wine (complimentary bottle to guests) on the ground floor. All of the rooms although quite different from each other offer private baths, marble floors, refrigerator, microwave, espresso coffee maker (ask for other coffee if you prefer) plus (see list). The one bedroom apartment includes private bath, full kitchen, living room (with fireplace) and a large terrace with panoramic view of the sea. For those needing more space, inquire if the two upstairs bedrooms are available (they are connected to the apartment by an inner staircase).

It is only a few minutes’ walk to the centre of world renowned Taormina whose Greek and Roman ruins have been praised by authors and poets throughout the centuries. Taormina was also the site of the first Sicilian parliament and offers many examples of Sicilian Baroque 17th century architecture. There are small museums that provide information that help in understanding the complex cultural heritage.

Today the village of Taormina offers a surprising number of good cafes, restaurants and shops (the locals love them too, so ask Michael to reserve for dinner!)

The Sicily region

Near Taormina are some of the best examples of Greek and Roman ruins in Sicily ( some historians say that they are among the best in the world). Many interesting itineraries can be planned using Taormina as a departure point.

The Taormina area

From Villa Galante it is approx 800 meters to the corso where there are many shops, restaurants, gelatarias and bars. The Greek Roman theatre is about a kilometre from Villa Galante and the back wall can be seen from the terrace. There are also several other ancient site that have been uncovered. It is approx. 1 KM to the funavia/cable car that goes down to the beaches where there are also several good restaurants as well as sparkling warm water to swim in. There is a dive centre if you care to go scuba diving. In either direction there are many ancient sites to visit as well as many good restaurants to try.
