The Sicily region

Sicily is a complete revelation to any visitor..................sandy beaches; plains of citrus groves dominate the terrain; ancient mediaeval villages stand majestically on hilltops; and incredible archaeological sites continue to withstand the passing of time.....
Palermo
Sicily's capital is a bustling, exotic city with an abundance of sights. Wander through the historic quarter admiring the wonderful ancient architecture of the Cathedral, the Royal Palace and the Cappella Palatina. A trip to nearby Monreale to visit its Arab-Norman cathedral and cloister is also recommended.
Agrigento
Located in the south west of Sicily, Agrigento was an important centre of the ancient Greek world. Evidence of this is visible today through the wonderful remains of the Greek colony and the famous Valley of Temples.
Syracuse
The presence of Greek and Roman civilisations is no more noticeable than in Syracuse, home to the largest Greek Theatre in Europe. Visit the Archaeological Area and take time to meander along the streets of Ortigia, the island on which the historical town centre is built, visiting the duomo and other sites of interest.
Mount Etna
Dominating the landscape of eastern Sicily is Etna, Europe's largest active volcano that attracts thousands of tourists every year.
The Taormina / Francavilla di Sicilia area
Set high above the Ionian Sea on Mount Tauro with stunning views, particularly of Mount Etna and the sweeping bays, TAORMINA is the most popular and stylish resort in Sicily. Once a Greek colony, the Graeco-Roman theatre ruins sit high above the town and with the fantastic views from the point of the sea, Mounta Etna and the surrounding area, walking holidays in Taormina have become increasing popular to see these famous views.
There are plenty of restaurants in Taormina, ranging from family run traditional trattorias to up-market restaurants. There are also several bars and night clubs open until the early hours if you fancy sampling the nightlife. In the summer months, particularly July and August, the resort becomes busy mainly with Italian tourists, so for a quieter break but still with the warm weather, the best months to visit are April and May when the streets are less crowded.
GIARDINI NAXOS is situated on a pretty bay overlooked by Mount Etna, and has a lively promenade and old town. The steep hills behind the old town offer fantastic views over the bay and the sand beach, which is popular with families and couples, and has plenty to do including watersports, bars and cafes. If you fancy a less crowded beach there are several others in the area. The pleasant seafront promenade is lined with restaurants, bars and shops - from boutiques to souvenir shops. Every Saturday the large local market at Recanti is well worth a visit to get plenty of bargains, including clothing, accessories, fruit and vegetables.

Stayed with 4 girlfriends and had an amazing time! Location was perfect and super easy to navigate all around Sicily from this base point. We felt like we were staying in one of our own homes! It was great to have a washing machine, iron and all of the normal household supplies. The landscape was incredible with fruit trees & grapevines. The views from the upstairs of Mt Etna and an old castle were like postcards! The villa was spacious and comfortable and we will definately be back! |

Had a lovely stay at Villa Sicily. We were staggered by the hospitality shown to us by the owners and Calogero, which really made our stay more enjoyable. A car is a necessity as the villa is situated away from the town, however once acclimatised to the Sicilian way of driving, there are stunning views to be taken in whilst driving through the mountains and around the coast. The dolci from the patisseries in Francovilla were amazing (and many times better than the equivalent from the touristy shops in Taormina), and would also recommend the butcher/deli on the main road from Francovilla to the villa- unfortunately we only visited for the first time on our last day and wished we had noticed it before! Would highly recommend to those looking for a relaxing holiday (once you've mastered the driving!). |
Guestbook for Villa Sicily
We had a very wonderful and relaxing time in this beautiful villa. The setting is incredible, the view of Mount Etna and the Alcantara valley is astounding. The house is very comfortable, with all the proper amenities, nicely equipped kitchen. We adored the pool, the terrace, plants and the peace. Thank you so much! ( Daffy - UK)
A lovely house with lots of roam for our son to run around. The pool was most welcome. Castiglione had several good restaurants (view from Belvedere terrace very good). All in all a very good base to explore both the hill villages, etna and the coast. Thanks for your hospitality. (Wells-Uk, may 2009)
We enjoyed a very fine week here. The house was perfect and we were spoiled with fruit and eggs. We have seen a lot of the surroundings. Thank you for the hospitality!! (Drongen - Netherlands, June 2009)
Thanks for a great 10 days. Lovely house and beautiful grounds. Thanks for your generosity and kindness. Had 2 nice meals in Castiglione, can recommend both, Belvedere and the Restaurant President. Taormina definitely worth a visit aswel as the beach at Giardini Naxos, but nice to get back to a lovely pool in your garden. We will certainly be recommending this place to our friends and family. Thanks once again. (Vanya and Carole -UK, June 2009)
Thank you very much for your great hospitality and kindness during our stay in Villa Saro. We loved the house and the lovely garden. Waking up to the Sicilian sun and seeing Etna in the distance will stay in our hearts. After 22 years it was great to come back to sicily. Alla prossima! Grazie per tutto! (Francy - Finland, June 2009)
