The Sicily region

Sicily is the largest of the Mediterranean islands and has an exceptional climate with a long, long season. That makes Sicily an attractive choice for low-season holiday breaks.
Sicilians are among the most welcoming of hosts and foodwise you are in for a treat, for the variety and quality of Sicilian cuisine is further evidence of the island’s rich cultural inheritance. As for the wine, to drink the best where the Greeks first planted vines is something to be savoured. So many places to visit and so much to do......Medieval Palaces, Castles, Parks, Nature Reserves....
You can reach the Aeolian Islands by ferry and hydrofoil from Milazzo.
Visit the valley of the temples in Agrigento, the ruins of numerous temples but also necropoli, houses, streets and everything else one would expect to find in an ancient city.
The Taormina / Gaggi area
TAORMINA.... in the foothills of mount Etna, visible from every angle and snow-tipped for half the year. Whether it's more picturesque looking up from below or being in the old town looking down is not worth deliberating. Both aspects are breathtaking. Especially the view from the Greek theatre. International Film Festival from June to August, with actors, directors and producers coming from far and wide for the event featuring previews, independent features, documentaries and film shorts.
ALCANTARA VALLEY... Walkers and nature lovers will find a spring holiday in Sicily especially satisfying. The Alcantara valley area also offer plenty of scope for watersports fans. ALCANTARA GORGE.....Walk along the floor of this 223-foot deep lava canyon - a narrow, scenically spectacular gorge carved out of the rock by a fast-flowing stream.
Beautiful SICILY BEACHES can be found at popular east-coast resorts like Giardini Naxos and Letojanni.
Visit the ROMAN VILLA at PIAZZA ARMERIA, with its incredibly well-preserved MOSAICS. Climb and visit also MOUNT ETNA, Europe's most active volcano, to see the craters and lava flows at the summit, an unforgettable experience.
Discover the excellent local Sicilian cuisine in the several restaurants in the surroundings. The enjoyment of eating good food, taken together with equally good wine is something Sicilians take very seriously. Visit the little restaurants called "trattoria" where locals (who always know best) eat every day.

Villa is very comfortable, situated not far from the beach (10 min by car), Alcantara resort, Castiglione, Randazzo. All bedrooms are very comfortable, 2 kitchens, 2 bathrooms and beautiful place near private pool with flowers and orange trees. You should try all this: 1. pizza from the villa owner! 2. place with wonderful meat on the way to Giardini naxos 3. fish restoran (ask villa owner) 4. all antient towns like Castiglione, Caltagirone, etc. Best place for holiday with childrens. |

Me & my husband went with another couple. The location of the villa is perfect, Gaggi has everything you need including supermarket for all your needs, traditional little bar in the square, this is a must for holiday makers, we were made to feel so welcome & even a shop to buy forgotten swim shorts! The owners are around to keep the pool area etc nice and tidy throughout the stay, but not intrusive. Some tips: - The pizza night that they put on in the villa is a must, cheap and the best pizza we had all holiday! - take some essentials if you don't want to buy e.g washing up liquid, salt, pepper, a couple of loo rolls.... - tour up Etna is great & well worth the 69 euros it cost us, also we did the Fiat 500 tour, expensive but worth it. Sicily is a beautiful country and can't wait to go back! Maybe try and book direct with owner if possible as agency weren't great (we got no directions & not responsive to emails) http://www.villapagano.it/english.htm |

Had a fantastic week here. The villa itself is very nice but what made it really special was the friendliness of the owners, Giovanni and Angelina. We were greeted at the villa with a large bowl of beautiful oranges and peaches and a bottle of Giovanni's home made wine (we recommend the red especially!) and throughout our stay he was on hand (but never intrusive) to help with using the villa, and providing more fruit and veg for us - aubergines, tomatoes, bananas, grapes etc. We loved the outside kitchen and also the little garden round the pool, full of flowers and a lovely place to relax. Pool is bigger than it appears in the photos - pleasantly surprised when we got there - and has plenty of shade, both natural from the plants and from big umbrellas. The rest of the villa was clean and comfortable, bathroom not large but adequate. The second bathroom is outside by the pool - it has a really good shower in it and we tended to use this rather than the shower in the bathroom. Giovanni did dinner for us twice during our stay (we did pay for these meals, but prices were very reasonable compared to restaurants and included starters, desserts, wine and liqueurs). He and his wife made traditional Sicilian pizzas using the wood-fired oven in the outside kitchen, they were delicious, our youngest son said it was the best Margharita pizza in the whole world (the rest of us had a selection of Giovanni's produce on ours!). The other meal was traditional Sicilian cooking and was equally as good. Giovanni also took us to have traditional Sicilian breakfast of ice-cream and brioche (don't knock it, it's delicious!) Finally, the view of Etna is excellent from the roof terrace, especially the night and morning it was erupting! It's not often you have breakfast in full view of an erupting volcano. I think you'll have gathered that we like this place. It was a real wrench to leave at the end of the week. Guestbook for Villa Fiori
One week at Villa Fiori feels like a taste of a fresh sweet orange. We enjoyed the homemade italian experience at the head of the table. Especialy the home made limoncello. It was a service that we could pick the oranges unlimited out of the garden. Thank you for your hospitality!

We have spent a wunderful week at this lovely villa and would like to thank you wholeheartedly for your warm welcome and great hospitality. The location was superb. We have enjoyed the views enormously... your garden is so pretty and the pool an instant hit with all of us but especially Katie and Alice. It was a real treat to sample your home grown food. Warmest wishes from us all.

Thank you so much for what has been a wonderful week in Villa Fiori. We feel very lucky to have stayed here in your beautiful home. Like every other guest, we were treated with delicious fresh fruit and wine. We both enjoyed the homemade brew so much that we are taking a couple of bottles back to the UK. We spent and enjoyed very much the gorgeous pool and found the garden and terrace to be the perfect spot for some peace and relaxation. When we were not enjoying the delights of Villa Fiori, we travelled to Taormina, Giardini Naxos, Syracusa, Noto, Savoca, Castelmola, Caltagirone, Gole d'Alcantara and Piazza Armerina. We would reccomend all these places, particularly Taormina by night. Finaly thank you for treating us so well and made our fist time in Sicily a special and very memorable holiday.
(Anne and James from the UK....SEPTEMBER 2011)
