The Sicily region
The largest island in the Mediterranean, Sicily has an abundance of natural and historical treasures. The island’s rich history – its periods under Greek, Arab and Norman influence – have left a unique legacy. Palermo, the foremost city on the island, is best experienced by strolling down the city’s oldest road – Via Vittorio Emanuele and appreciating the Moorish architecture and the Botanical Gardens which Goethe used to frequent.
Taormina / Francavilla di Sicilia area
Taormina is famous for its tourism which makes of it one of the chief town of Sicilian tourism. The pretty town bases its production upon vegetables and fruit and also upon fresh fish. Local handicraft is based upon wood and iron works and handmade embroideries. It hosts a magnificent amphitheater with a breathtaking view of Mount Etna in the background. The theater, built by the Greeks in the 3rd century BC and remodeled by the Romans, is still used today and hosts the famous Taormina Film Festival. A much smaller Roman theater, the Odeon, is to be found near the Church of Santa Caterina.

Guestbook
We had a very lovely stay in Casa del Sole. The views are so beautiful and the house is situated to take full advantage of them and also affords total privacy. We had breakfast on the terrace most mornings and took numerous day trips to various points of Sicily such as Taormina, Mt Etna, Syracusa etc. Mr Burrogano was a wonderful host.He made sure that we had everything we needed and he was always available to answer our questions. A few words of caution, however. Be sure that your car is not very wide as the driveway to the house is very narrow and not for the feint of heart.....or for one who may have had a few glasses of wine! Otherwise, this is a perfect vacation house. You will love being surrounded by the gorgeous fruit trees!

We had a wonderful time staying in the very beautiful and peaceful villa Casa del Sole. Your hospitality was very much appreciated - it's the little extras that makes you feel even more welcome - like the lovely food that awaited us upon our arrival. We will most certainly recommend you to all our friends, and hope to visit Casa del Sole again in the future. Thank you again for your excellent service. (Ilse sept 2007)
