This beautiful house is a single house located in a typical village far from the traffic and the stress of the “popular” “classic” holiday village of the est Sicily. But on the other hand, it is possible to arrive in the most important tourist places in around 25 minutes by car. Castiglione di Sicilia is a medieval village and it has maintained his history unaltered during the century. The house consists of two bedrooms (the first with a double bed, the second with three single beds). The second bedroom is in the second floor and the first bedroom has typical furniture like those of 100 years ago. Sheets, blankets, pillows and towels are provided. There is also a kitchen, which is fully equipped, one bathroom, and one drawing room. The house has a little terrace, from which is possible enjoy a wonderful view of the Alcantara valley. The house is located in the historical centre of the village and it was built on 1850. It is an ideal place to spend unforgettable Italian holidays while discovering the charm of Castiglione di Sicilia. Located on the east of Sicily, Castiglione di Sicilia is a tranquil village, it is also very close to some of the most important tourist sights in Sicily: Etna volcano, Gole Alcantara, Taormina and Giardini Naxos. Castiglione di Sicilia is a new touristic place, ideal to spend your holiday.

Near Taormina: As soon as you arrive in Taormina, you will feel the magical, mythical atmosphere to spread all around which has enchanted visitors from all over the world for years and years. Settled on a hill of the Monte Tauro, Taormina dominates two grand, sweeping bays below and on the southern side, the top of Mount Etna, the European highest active volcano, often capped with snow, offering to the visitors a breathtaking, dramatic and memorable view over almost one hundred miles of Mediterranean sea. Taormina really seems to be born as a touristic resort since past times, when ancient people like the Sicels, Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Saracens, Arabs, Normans and Spaniards chose it as their residential site thank to its favourable position, mild climate and magic atmosphere. Nowadays visitors can still find fine examples of Taormina's golden times: the splendid Greek Thetre, the Roman 'Naumachiae', the 13th century Cathedral of Saint NicolÃ, the 14th century Palazzo Corvaja.

Skiing on a volcano!: Few people are aware that Etna is a popular location for skiers in winter. The closest ski-facilities are in Piano Provenzana (Linguaglossa), but can also be found at Rifugio Sapienza (Nicolosi). Piano Provenzana is far only 7 km from the house. On some glorious days in winter, it's even possible to ski the frozen slopes in the morning enjoying a wonderful panoramic view of the sea, and then, the same afternoon, go and sunbathe on the beaches below!

The Sicily region

Sicily is the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea; It is located in the central Mediterranean. It extends from the tip of the Apennine peninsula, from which it is separated only by the narrow Strait of Messina, towards the North African coast. Its most prominent landmark is Mount Etna, which at 3,320 m (10,890 ft) is the tallest active volcano in Europe and one of the most active in the world. The island has a typical Mediterranean climate.

The earliest archeological evidence of human dwelling on the island dates from as early as 8000 BC. At around 750 BC, Sicily was host to a number of Phoenician and Greek colonies and for the next 600 years it was the site of the Greek–Punic and Roman–Punic wars, which ended with the Roman destruction of Carthage.

The Alcantara river, that in the summer time receives hundreds of tourists from all the world, slides between enormous basalt stones and has to be considered like one spectacular sculpture of the nature. It is possible to climb the river, adequately dressed, and enjoy not only the spectacular lavic sculptures, sed also the typical flora and fauna. In the bars near the Alcantara river, it is possible to taste typical products: the “granite” of lemon, “arancini”, the orange juice and other important typical products.

Taormina

It is difficult to describe in few words the history, the art, the traditions, the expectations of this village.... Castiglione of Sicily with its five churches, constructed between the VII-IX sec, is situated about 600 meters from the sea level and counts approximately 5000 inhabitants. The castle (Castel Leone) is one of the prides of the village, and is also possible to enjoy one magnificent sight of the Etna and the village. The city fascination is above all in the medieval buildings that resisted to the earthquake in 1693. Characteristics are a lot of small medieval roads, that lead to the village public square, and also to the medieval bridge that crosses the Alcantara river.

It is possible to consider the house located in Taormina area. Taormina (Sicilian: Taurmina, Greek: Tauromenion, Latin: Tauromenium) is a small town on the east coast of the island of Sicily, Italy, in the Province of Messina, about midway between Messina and Catania. Taormina has been a very popular tourist destination since the 19th century. It has popular beaches (accessible via an aerial tramway and walking) on the Ionian sea, which is remarkably warm and has a high salt content. Taormina can be reached via highways from Messina from the north and Catania from the south.

The beach of Isola Bella in Taormina is the most famous one of Taormina at all. Protected by the bay and the mountains bathing season is longer here than elsewhere. The fantastic nature, the numerous sun-tanned people, the crystal-clear sea and the headland leading to Isola Bella make your bathing holidays in Taormina simply unrivalled. You can find free beach sections as well as wonderful and well-equipped lidos on Isola Bella. The beach does not consist of sand but of pebbles.
