There is a mini market, clinic and food stalls within walking distance from the apartment. On Fridays, there is a night market which offers fresh local food, fruits and vegetables located only about 10 minutes walk from the apartment.
For those who are keen on water-sports, there is a nearby sports centre offers jet-skis, canoeing, para-gliding and other equipment for rent. Tours and day trips, including the Mangrove tour, eagle-feeding and island hopping, can also be arranged through the sports centre.

The Langkawi Island region
Langkawi, comprising 99 exotic tropical islands, nestles serenely off the coast of Kedah state in the far north west of Peninsular Malaysia. Langkawi offers some of the world's best kept secret - secluded coves and long stretches of white sandy beaches. Washed by the calm turquoise waters of the Andaman Sea, the islands are covered with age-old forests which are home to a rich diversity of flora and fauna.
Increasing international promotions has catapulated Langkawi the mainstream of renowned tropical island destinations. Those seeking uncrowded and unspoilt places will find Langkawi an excellent choice.

Tanjung Rhu area
Tanjung Rhu boasts one of Langkawi's best beaches with magnificent views of nearby islands which can be reached at low tide on foot. On a clear day you can even see across to Thailand.
The area is known for its glorious natural environment and flanked by century old lime-stone caves. Visitors can laze on the two and a half kilometre stretch of beach or if you just want to head into the great outdoors try a windsurfer, catamaran, sea kayak, mountain bike or even a hydro bike. Another highlight is a riverboat cruise where you'll see magnificent Langkawi eagles diving for fish.
You can also head out by boat to the Pulau Payar Marine Park in the Malacca Straits. The Malacca Straits used to be the busiest trade route in Asia, but these days it's better known as a top spot to dive and snorkel. You can go on a private dive with two licensed instructors at two locations for around GBP100.00. The added bonus is the warm water. At 29 degrees, you probably won't even need a wetsuit. You can also go for a snorkel in a fenced area, where the fish stay in and the sharks are kept out.
Need a bite to eat? Get stuck into the gastronomic delights on offer at the nearby resorts. There are five dining options, from fine dining to poolside service. Every Friday night, there is a night market in the area.
How to get there
By Road Visitors travelling by road have to drive to Kuala Kedah or Kuala Perlis on the north-western coast of Peninsular Malaysia, the main take-off points by ferry to Langkawi. The journey from Kuala Lumpur to Kuala Kedah takes about six hours while Kuala Perlis is an additional hour away. Car parking facilities are available at both jetties.
By Air The Langkawi International Airport at Padang Matsirat is about 18km/20 minutes drive. Direct air services from Kuala Lumpur to Langkawi are provided by Malaysia Airlines and Air Asia on a daily basis. Silk Air flies four times a week from Singapore to the island. Most recent airlines servicing Langkawi - Singapore route is Air Asia offering cheap fares.
And now from 2nd August 2009 the latest after AirAsia, Silk Air (Singapore) and Malaysia Airlines, Tiger Airways is the 4th airline flying directly from Singapore to Langkawi. “The Airline will be using the Airbus A320 with capacity for 180 passengers and the flights are scheduled four times weekly, on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.”
By Rail Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) or Malayan Railway provides comfortable and economical rail services from Kuala Lumour to Alor Setar in Kedah and Arau in Perlis. From Alor Setar or Arau, you can take a taxi or bus to Kuala Kedah or Kuala Perlis respectively and then proceed by ferry to Langkawi.
By Sea Ferry Services Express ferries provide regular services daily to Langkawi from both Kuala Kedah and Kuala Perlis. The journey to Langkawi from Kuala Kedah and Kuala Perlis takes 1 hour 15 minutes and 45 minutes respectively.The journey from Penang to Langkawi by ferry takes about 2 hours 30 minutes.
Cruises A novel way to take a holiday to Langkawi is by cruise ship. Cruises are of varying duration depending on the ports of en route to Langkawi. Embarkation points are at Port Klang and Singapore.
Car Hire Car hire is available from the airport and Jetty Point. Car rental can be arranged by owner who works closely with a fully-licensed car rental company on the island.
