The Penang Island region
The island of Penang, also known as the pearle of the orient.
Penang is an island with a wide variety of landscapes and things to do. Penang has a lovely climate, a beach and an untouched jungle. The roads are well maintained and there are lots of things for sale for example Potatos, peanutbutter and many other European products. Do you prefer to eat out? Well, then you will be spoiled for choice with a large varity of cheap or expensive restaurants.
On Penang you will find the town of Georgetown which has lots of shops and places of interest. One of the best and fun ways to discover Georgetown is by bicycle taxi. The driver will tell you with pride all there is to know about his town. You will be driving through Chinatown, Little India and you will visit one of the beautiful tempels.
We also recommend a trip to Penanghill, where you will have a lovely panoramic view of the island and you can also see the mainland of Malaysia.
From Penang you can also go on a trip to for example the cooler regions like Cameron Highlands. Or you can go on a boat trip which takes 2 1/2 hours and will take you to the island of Langkawi with its beautiful beaches. It is also possible to make a city trip to Kuala Lumpur from Penang. The best way to travel is by plane with Airasia ( the cheapest ) and this will only take you 45 minutes.
Penang is a lovely island to escape the cold winter months. It is least effected by the tsunami and ready and able to receive guests.

BUS: Bus from Georgetown to Tanjung Bunga, which is the best way to travel, goes approximately every 20 minutes. Fares are really cheap RM 2,- for one way ticket.
TAXI'S: Whenever you travel by taxi make sure that you come to an agreement on the fare before you drive. From Georgetown to Tanjung Bunga should not cost more than RM30,-. From the Ferringhi Beach Hotel to Batu Ferringhi should cost you about RM10,- and from Tanjung Bunga to Batu Ferringhi about RM15,.
SHOPPING: Gurney Plaza, Island Plaza, Midlands Park, Komtar, Pragin Mall, Queensbay Mall, Bukit Jambul, Pulau Tikus, The Garage.
MARKETS: The best known evening market ( Pasar Malam ) is in Batu Ferringhi and a daily market in Lorong Kulit in Georgetown ( fruit, vegetables and a flea market until 2 pm ).
EAT: Everywhere cheap and safe, even at the hawker stalls!!! All foods from different regions are represented.
Tanjung Bungah area
Tanjung Bungah is a suburb in Penang, Malaysia. It is situated in the northern part of Penang Island. It is one of the many towns en route Batu Ferringhi and thus a popular tourist attraction as well. Many hotels, are located in Tanjung Bungah. In recent years it is one of the many places of rapid development, especially for mid-class to high end apartments and condominiums. It has also become a favourite spot for foreigners to take up residency because of its proximity to the educational facilities at Dalat School and The International School of Penang (Uplands) and to leisure venues as well as its proximity to other leisure spots of Batu Ferringhi and Gurney Drive.
The closest beach to George Town is Tanjung Bungah beach. The shoreline here is packed with lush greenery and dotted with large boulders. You can also sunbathe in the shadow of the overhanging cliffs. The ocean view at Tanjung Bungah beach is said to be one of the best on the island! Even better yet, visitors do not need to forgo luxury while visiting Tanjung Bungah’s beach as there are many world-class resorts and hotels here.

A car is not essential however to enjoy what Penang has on offer a car is advised, at least for part of your stay. -Pickup service from the airport and vica versa can be arranged for an affordable price, especially when you will travelling with 4 persons, taxi drivers are not allowed to bring more than 3 passengers and don´t forget all your luggage
