Home description
An attractively presented detached villa with sea view and private pool set amongst mature gardens less than 1 km from the centre of the resort of Tamariu with its waterfront restaurants and golden sandy beach. Sleeping up to 8 this is a comfortable family villa.
Set in an elevated position in a quiet road in the area of Aigua Gelida, just to the north of the resort centre, the villa Escapada is set amongst mature gardens of pine trees and other Mediterranean plants. Architecturally distinctive, the entrance to the villa is down steps from the road where there is a parking place for one vehicle. The entrance is into a spacious semi-circular living room which has large glass doors that open onto the terraces that surround the villa and lead to the garden and the swimming pool. The comfortable living room is light and bright with tiled floors, pastel coloured walls and a typical beamed ceiling. There is also a feature fireplace and separate areas for sitting and dining. The well equipped kitchen is open-plan through an arch from the living room and has a ceramic hob and oven, fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine. There is also a separate cloakroom.
A short flight of stairs lead up from the living room to the three bedrooms that are on this floor. The three bedrooms comprise a double and two twins which share a bathroom and a cloakroom.
The fourth ‘master’ bedroom is above and separate from the main house with its own private entrance reached up an external spiral staircase from beside the front door. This is a double bedroom and an en suite shower room with large walk in shower, it also benefits from a private terrace from which there are views out to sea and over the surrounding countryside.
Escapada - the terrace accessed directly from the living room
Escapada - looking down over the living room to the terrace beyond
Escapada - the studio apartment
Escapada - view inland from across the pool

The Costa Brava/Catalonia region
Catalonia, or perhaps better known as the Catalunya region, is the area of northern Spain bordering the Mediterranean just to the south of the French border.
This ancient kingdom once extended from near Narbonne in France down to south of Barcelona and eastwards to include the Balearic Islands. The area was later divided between France and Spain but even today the area remains fiercely Catalan, as can be seen by the numerous red and yellow striped flags displayed and the rather exceptional cuisine, demonstrated best perhaps by Ferran Adria of Es Bulli fame.
To the holidaymaker it is the Costa Brava, known throughout the world for its scenic beauty, aquamarine seas and yellow sandy beaches. Inland the area is mainly agricultural set against a backdrop of the ever present Pyrenean Mountains in the distance. The main crops are rice and fruit, together with the large selection of fish present a varied and healthy diet.
Perhaps Catalunya greatest gifts to the world have been its artists, Joan Miró and Salvador Dali are both from this region, and today’s artists, the chefs of Catalunya lead the world with their own inimitable styles.
The most attractive area of the coast is the small area around Palafrugell, which stretches from Pals and Begur to the north, south through Aguablava, Tamariu, Llafranc, and Calella de Palafrugell to the gardens of Cap Roig. This area abounds with beautiful bays, coves and headlands, with golden sandy beaches, sparkling seas and glistening white villages reflecting in the sun.
Places to visit include Pals, the walled medieval city; Bisbal famed for its market and ceramics; Torroella de Montgri with its Gothic palaces, courtyards and narrow streets that nestle beneath the Castell de Montgri dating from 1294 and the spectacular gardens of Cap Roig.
Tamariu area
Named after the tamarisk trees that once surrounded its bays, Tamariu is a charming small resort with a crescent of golden sandy beach, that is set on a sparkling bay between majestic tree clad hillsides. It is popular with families, beach lovers and those seeking watersports, walkers, cyclists and is renowned for its excellent fish restaurants which are set on the beach promenade overlooking the sea. One of our favourites is Es Dofi.
Holidays here are relaxed, lunches are long and the evenings are late but quiet. The paseo is the prelude to the evening meal with longer walks along the coast for the more serious hiker, one of the most popular is around the nearby headlands to the rocky cove of Aigua Xellida, with its own small beach.
There are many local festivals in the surrounding towns and villages - in late May Pallfrugell holds its Spring festival the Caroussel Costa Brava; on 23/24 June the Festa de St Joan is marked all over the region with with bonfires and firework parties; in July and August nearby Calella de Plafrugell and Llafranc hold their Cantada d' Havaneres musical festivals that involve the singing of local sea shanties on the beach. Tamariu holds its own Cantada on the beach in early September.
