"It might have well been a jungle-island-resort."

We stayed in a cabin at Vista Bela, and every morning ate breakfast on our porch and walked 10 yards onto the beach to swim. The surf is sensational, although we just body surfed. A 10 minute walk on the beach landed us at the Playa Negra resort, with a nice bar. Walking to the town of Playa Negra was also very easy. This is where we found Cafe Playa Negra, where we watched Costa Rica in the World Cup, and Villa Deveena, an amazing delicious restaurant with spectacular food and drinks and an amazing view. Our hosts, Sonny and Rita were nothing short of perfect. Rita made us sandwiches and smoothies, and Sonny helped us with everything, from showing us how to open coconuts and drain the milk to offering us his aloe plant to aid in our sunburn recovery (we...weren't careful on the first beach day). Overall they were the best hosts we could have hoped for...incredible with information about the area and as friendly and warm as we could hope for. We would usually chat with them in the morning about our day plans, and they would offer great advice. There are about 5 hammocks strung up just outside our door, which provided nice afternoon relaxation, and a restaurant steps away next door where we had some very fresh fish. PuraVidaAventura was also a great way to spend the day. We did canopy ziplining and horseback riding. Thrilling! We brought about 400 cash and were able to use our credit cards for a few grocery store trips and at Villa Devenna and together stayed well under 1000 for a whole week of activity and food and drink. Mostly because the beach is free and accessible and perfect. We were totally relaxed and satisfied. If you're thinking about a nice quiet retreat with adventurous possibilities, this is the place.

"Pura Vida and heaven"

I chose to visit Costa Rica because I found this place. If you prefer resorts this has different amenities. It has peace, beauty, nature, comfort and quiet. Plus it has Sonny and Rita. It is close to good food, groceries, fishing, horses, and everything you might need. I was there for a month so I saw the whole moon cycle and tides. I had friends visit and they stayed in the log cabin which was a bit tight for a two week stay for them so they moved to the loft. My cabin The Ocean View was plenty roomy for me and two people would fit nicely. The loft is quite spacious for a family.
There is a wonderful little restaurant right next door.. Mariella cooks fabulous fish and chicken. A short walk down the beach is Playa Negra......great beach, bar, food and surfing. The other direction down the beach is Playa Blanca with Iguanazul with good food and bar.
Cabins are on Playa Callejones .
I didn't have a car for first two weeks but last two friends brought car which enabled me to do more exploring. You need a car with higher wheel base for those back roads.
I can not adequately express how wonderful my month was at Vista Bela. I will return. Tamarinda is about 30 miles away and very Americanized. At Vista Bela I spent weeks rotating in the hammocks, watching birds and monkeys, exploring tidal pools, walking beaches, eating fresh food, and had some enjoyable day trips with a great road trip to Arenal Volcano. Oh yes....added surprise.... I am a huge World Cup fan and my cabin had a TV so I could watch all the World Cup I wanted!!!!!!!!
Sonny and Rita are mostly responsible for my month that I will never forget. Thank you. I now know what Puranas Vida really means.
