The Powys/Brecon Beacons region

This is one of the most rural and untouched regions within Wales, with a wealth of natural beauty and wonderful landscapes, in both the countryside and at the coast. Visitors will be able to find uncrowded beaches and a diverse habitat for marine life around the Cardigan Bay area, with much of this coastline being designated as ‘Heritage Coast'. Here there are little coves and sandy beaches many of which can be explored by boat, which can be hired locally. Inland the Brecon Beacon National Park extends over 500 square miles and is home to some of Wales's most stunning mountain scenery. Small towns and charming villages are dotted throughout this area, just waiting to be discovered.

Outdoor enthusiasts will be in their element here and will have the opportunity to try anything from hang gliding to cave diving. A good selection of water sports including equipment hire and professional instruction are available at Llangorse Lake. Permits to fish the lake are also available. Walkers, mountain-bikers and horseback riders are particularly well catered for in this region with numerous opportunities available locally. For a less energetic though no doubt equally enjoyable way to see the beauty of the Brecon Mountains why not take a ride on the much loved Brecon Mountain Railway? Highly recommended for a visit is Brecon Cathedral. This dates back from medieval times and is home to the chapel dedicated to the Royal Regiment of Wales. August in Brecon is jazz-festival time with performers and visitors coming from around the globe to enjoy the spectacle. Book-lovers must of course visit the nearby town of Hay on Wye famous throughout the UK and beyond for its annual book festival and numerous second-hand book shops.

"Gorgeous barn in tranquil setting"

I stayed in the Clock Barn over the long Easter weekend with my boyfriend. We were met by the owner on our arrival before being left alone to relax and unwind. The barn is stunning, beautiful oak beam, brand new bathroom with a lovely corner bath and a warm living area. It is in a great location close to Brecon, and the Llangorse indoor climbing centre. I would highly recommend a relaxing stay here!
