The Paphos region
The beaches of Coral Bay, the new golf course, the old harbour and the nightlife of Paphos are all within 15 mins drive. The ancient Monastery of St. Neophytos is only 10 minutes away. All of the amenities that Paphos has to offer including diving, fishing, golf, horse riding and water sports, are all easily accessible. Paphos is a world heritage site with many historical places of interest. Less than half an hour away is the Akamas National Park famous for trekking and its nesting turtles. The Troodos Mountains are an hour away.
Eight km north of the city of Paphos you will find the village of Tala which connects with Emba village in the south and the monastery of ‘Agios Neofytos’ in the north-east and from there on with the city of Paphos. The village is built at an altitude of 280 meters and has a general tilt from the north-east to the south-west with the altitudes ranging from 150 to 600 meters. Tala Square is a walk away with several Taverns and Cypriot eating places.
The focal point of Tala Village is in the Square, a typical beautiful Cypriot village square that includes little shops called Kiosks, bars, coffee shop serving Cypriot coffee and taverna’s. All the Tavernas serve traditional Cypriot food, from Lamb Kleftiko to the famous village meze. But each Taverna is known for one or two special dishes and we will try and guide you here.
Places to drink in Tala.......
Marios pub, serves snack food during the day. Sit inside or out and enjoy the local brew of Keo, Leon or if you dare the Commandaria!
Marios has a large TV for those all important football matches.
One of our favourites... is Melitzia Tavern, which can be found just before you reach the Square from Tala Vera. Savvas is your host and the food is cooked by his wife Maria. Probably the best Keflitico in the village plus other traditional dishes such as Stifado with beef or for the more adventurous rabbit. The village meze is also very good. Melitzia has a very good reputation with the local ex pats and so booking a table is recommended.
Donkey Man... Onisiforos formly owned Voukani Tavern. With new owners it serves up an international cusine. People are welcome to just have a drink on one of the tables and relax watching the village life go by.
Family run ..Stamna Tavern just up the lane from the square is run by Savvas and his family, a truly family run business. The speciality is village meze and anything from the grill, specially the catch of the day. A warm friendly atmosphere, the children perform Greek dancing on a Friday or Saturday night. Brandy is delivered in a unique way, be warned. Tables are outside to enjoy the summer nights and in the colder months a roaring fire is alight inside to keep you cosy.
Just out of the village sits Vrasidas Tavern and Museum. Enjoy the Kleftiko or some other traditional dish off the menu. Greek nights are on Friday nights during the summer months.
The Square Bar and Bistro
One of the newest...Restaurant to Tala is run by Sandra and Ray.
A very friendly atmosphere and offering an alternative menu to Cypriot with a mixture of English, Italian and French cuisine's, Thursday night they have a band or singer and dancing is a must. The Square Bar and Bistro has spectacular views of the Paphos Coastline. They also host wedding receptions.
