Home description
Our residence is located in Ortigia island, the old town of Siracusa and world heritage site, in historical building of the 800’, recently restored and returned to all its original splendor. The location is perfect: a few steps from the sea and Aretusa Spring , half way between the Cathedral and Maniace Castle.
“Ciricò”, pride of our home, is a typical Sicilian apartment. The Mediterranean charm is accentuated by the recovery of existing resources in our land: wood and stone are the materials used. Every detail is a tribute to elegance and charm: from the original floors, wooden beams, the stone arches, to the ancient well and the stone oven. A small entrance decorated with period furniture introduces the large vaulted living room: here old and new blend together harmoniously.
The typical kitchen overlooking a courtyard, which with its pergola and high orange tree, provides the necessary coolness, even in warmer months, to enjoy a drink or simply to enjoy pleasant moments of relax.
The apartment has satellite TV, air conditioning / heat pumps, dryer and microwave, free internet access and also on the second floor of the building, is available to our guests a convenient laundry with washing machine and dryer.
Among restaurants, pubs and bars, just outside your apartment, you'll be spoiled for choice. The promenade dotted with coves where swimming and maybe stop to admire those who, according to Goethe, are the most beautiful sunsets in the world, will be a wonderful thought for ever in your minds! The perfect mix of old charm and modernity will give our guests an unforgettable holiday at incredibly familiar prices!!

The Sicily region
It's more than an island! Discover Sicily and discover the world. The world's first multicultural society, Sicily is Italy's (and Europe's) most historically cosmopolitan region, having been ruled by Asians, Africans and Europeans. Sicily is black and white and a million shades of gray. There's no other place on Earth like Sicily.
Our island is a unique place full of art, archeology, history, folklore and breathtaking scenery. And, of course, great food. Sicily is almost a nation unto itself. The enchanting land where Archimedes taught and Saint Paul preached was a Greek colony, a Roman province, an Arab emirate and a Norman kingdom. The Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Swabians, Angevins and Aragonese made Sicily their own, leaving behind an eclectic history that you can still touch today. And Sicily will touch you. Sicily is Europe, Africa and Asia on one island. Greek tyrants, Arab emirs, Norman knights, Byzantine bishops and Holy Roman Emperors made Sicily the place it is. Experience their legacy in Phoenician settlements, Punic cities, Greek temples, Roman amphitheatres, Norman Arab castles and Aragonese churches. Thirty centuries of history expressed in the Classical, the Romanesque, the Gothic, the Baroque...
Sikania to its most ancient peoples, Sicily was Sikelia, Plato's utopian society, to the ancient Greeks. Later, the sonnet was created at the Court of Frederick II, and Sicily found her place in the literature of Dante and Boccaccio. Sunny Sicily is Punic Palermo, towering Taormina, ancient Agrigento, splendid Siracusa, and medieval Monreale and Cefal.
And God created Sicily. The place where the mountains meet the sea. Sicilia, the island in the sun, is home to Heavenly beaches, majestic mountains and Europe's greatest natural wonder, Mount Etna. Sicily's coasts are gold with orange and lemon orchards. In northeastern Sicily you'll find lush forests. In the central regions you'll encounter rugged land and rolling hills. Dignified vineyards, ancient olive groves, hardy almond orchards and endless wheat fields complete the picture. Summer is amber land under a sky of blue. Winter finds palm trees dusted with snow in a surreal symphony. Spring is a rainbow of wild flowers set against greenest fields...
The sun kisses the blazing sands and the low cliffs; the sky is tinged with strong colours, especially at sunset; the wind brings odours and sands from Africa.
The sandy, golden beaches dance with the bright, blue sea; silver olive trees mix togheter with palms and euphorbies; everything invites you to enjoy life and to get the most of nature.
Syracuse / Ortigia area
Syracuse, the most ancient and magnificent of all Mediterranean cities, and former capital of the Magna Graecia, owes its unique charm to the succession of invading civilisations that have conquered it. It is a true melting pot of ancient Greek, Roman, Arabic, Norman, Byzantine and Spanish cultures and combines all their styles, tastes and scents. In every corner of the city traces of these ancient civilisations can be seen. A visit to Syracuse is like a journey in time and through history. Added to which is the wonderful coastline and delightful surrounding countryside. You will have the chance to mix art, history, nature and fine food with our warm Sicilian hospitality.
As a visitor to Siracuse, you should first see around the historic city, concentrating on the island of Ortigia, before visiting some of the many nearby sites: (including the baroque marvel of the city of Noto - a Unesco world heritage centre - the world-famous archaeological sites of Augusta and Palazzolo Acreide, the nature reserves at Vendicari and Cavagrande, the prehistoric site of Pantalica, etc.)
If you care to venture a little further, visit the beautiful city of Taormina (beloved of D H Lawrence and many other English writers and artists), the ceramics of Caltagirone, the villa at Casale di Piazza Armerina, the baroque splendours of Modica and Ragusa (where you should try the famous cuisine), the nightlife of Catania, the splendid landscape around Alcantara and, of course, the awe-inspiring heights and lave-flows of Mt Etna. Finally, the nearby coastline offers many wonderful opportunities for sea bathing in a warm and crystal-clear sea.
