The Sicily region

Sicily is an autonomous region with special status of 5,045,176 inhabitants of Italy, with capital Palermo.

The territory of the region, which is part of Italy's island, consists almost entirely of the same name from the island, the largest island in Italian and Mediterranean cuisine and the remaining part is formed by the islands of the Aeolian Islands, the Egadi and Pelagie, Pantelleria and Ustica .

It is the largest region of Italy (25,711 km ²) and its territory is divided into nine provinces, whose capitals are: Agrigento, Caltanissetta, Catania, Enna, Messina, Palermo, Ragusa, Siracusa, Trapani.

It 'the only Italian region to include two cities among the ten most populous country in Palermo and Catania. It is washed by the Tyrrhenian Sea to the north, south-west of the Strait of Sicily, the Ionian Sea to the east and north-east by the Strait of Messina, which separates it from Calabria.

The oldest human traces found on the island is dated to 12,000 BC about. Around 750 BC, Sicily became a Greek colony and in the next 600 years it was the main battlefield of the wars greek-Punic and Roman-Punic, which ended with the destruction of Carthage by Rome. After the fall of the Roman Empire in the fifth century, Sicily was a land of conquest, and during the High Middle Ages was subject to the Vandals, the Ostrogoths, Byzantines, Arabs and Normans, was born in the Kingdom of Sicily, lasted from 1130 to 1816, subject to the crown of Aragon in Spain, the Holy Roman Empire and, finally, the Bourbons (later Kingdom of the Two Sicilies). It was joined to the rest of Italy in 1860. Even before the birth of the Italian Republic in 1946, Sicily was granted the special status of autonomous region that has its own parliament.

Syracuse

Syracuse is an Italian town of 123,361 inhabitants, capital of the province of Sicily.

Located on the southeast coast of the island, is the fourth largest city in Sicily by population, after Palermo, Catania and Messina, was once one of the largest metropolis of the ancient world, and the largest Greek city.

Near the city is the rock necropolis of Pantalica declared in 2005 World Heritage [UNESCO.

The name derives from the Syracuse siculo Syraka or Sùraka (plenty of water) for the presence of many watercourses and a swampy area that is the area of today Pantanelli. Both in greek and in latin is plural, Syracusae because the city was founded by Archias, a noble of Corinth in 734 BC, it became in a few years the Pentapolis as the original core, consisting of the island of Ortigia were added as other four groups: Acradina, Tyche, Neapolis and Epipoli.

"Truly a home away from home"

What a perfect name to describe this property!!!?.. This home is undoubtedly authentic Sicily, and undeniably charming, as is the property's owner, whom we are quite fond of- Corrado. I spent a most memorable and truly sensational week at this fantastic country farmhouse, with my husband and two young children, 6 and 8. I would absolutely recommend this property to anyone who is looking for a rental in breathtaking Sicily. The home was more than we could have dreamed of, as it was filled with artifacts and decor reminiscent of the old Sicilian farmhouse it was originally, yet tastefully and comfortably equipped with all amenities travelers could ask for. It was cool in the evenings and the fans provided were more than enough to keep the rooms comfortable. My family absolutely fell in love with this home, and it's owner, Corrado! Upon arriving, Corrado met us, helped us feel welcome and at home, both within it's tranquil and beautiful grounds, and on the serene island of Sicilia itself! His recommendations, helpfulness, and genuinely warm nature, made LEAVING this wonderful place even more difficult! My children were so excited to see it, to spend the week, and were sad to leave. We felt good about the location of the property, as it was private, quiet, and yet also convenient to get to the autostrada for all of our day trips- Beautiful Taormina, Catania, Acireale, Siracusa , Noto, Avola...and more!!! Of course, as others have already written, the lemon trees, the outdoor features, barbecue, huge farmhouse table, seating, swimming pool and fantastic outdoor shower, were all outstanding features, however, it is really for the wonderful SPIRIT of this property and sincerity of it's owner, that I so highly recommend it. I only hope that I may return to Sicily and that I may stay in this home once again.....

Grazie Nicole,
sei stata molto gentile con la tua recensione.
Ancora grazie di cuore. Un bacio a te e a tutta la tua bella famiglia.
A presto, Corrado!

"authentic sicilian charm"

Thank you very much for the review.
I hope to see you soon.
A kiss to everyone.
Corrado
