The waterfront/level lawn area is tidal so you can play in the sand or go for a walk at low tide and then fish from our seawall at high tide. Careel Bay is a playground for pelicans and ducks.

The New South Wales region
If you have the chance to leave the fabulous northern beaches for a day visit the majestic Blue Mountains or the quaint villages and wineries of the Hunter Valley - both day trips by car or train.
Express buses from Avalon go to the heart of the city of Sydney & the CBD where you can spend days visiting our famous wonderful landmarks Sydney harbour & the foreshore, the Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge. The city has numerous museums and historical and modern landmarks so you can mix a beach holiday with sight seeing.
A connecting bus at the end of the street gets you to Avalon village in minutes. From Avalon centre, buses go north to Palm Beach or south to Newport Beach, Narrabeen Beach, Manly Beach (then ferry to the city or Taronga Zoo) or the centre of the city.
Sydney / Avalon Beach area
Avalon Beach is minutes from Palm Beach - famous for the Australian series Home & Away! Here you can visit the lighthouse or take a 20 minute ferry to the Central Coast or a number of quiet out of the way beaches.
Just remember your suncreen and a broad brim hat. Careel Bay Marina opposite has full boating & fishing facilities and supplies like milk & bread or ice creams to finish off a level walk from Avalon or the beach. It's also the best place to buy the right bait for fishing off the wharf.
Beaches are patrolled all through summer. There are many popular surfing breaks from the well known at Palm Beach to "Off Rocks" at Avalon. Kiddie's Corner at Palm Beach is great for teaching kids how to surf. Coaching clinics run through the school holidays. Avalon Beach has a 25m pool and children's pool alongside the rock platform where children spend many hours digging in the warm water of looking for sea life.
Avalon village itself has fabulous restaurants, coffee shops and cafes as well as the essentials like the bakery, patisserie, organic fruit shops, health food store, supermarket, banks, hairdressers, newsagent & all medical facilities.
How to get there
All international car hire companies operate at Kinsgford Smith Airport (Sydney's only airport). Car journey from airport approx 45 minutes. You travel from the airport in the south of the city across the Harbour Bridge to the northern beaches. GPS system is an advantage - Sydney is a sprawling city. Avalon has a reliable family owned & run shuttle service which I can recommend.

Guestbook for Avalon's Retreat
Carmen & Paul Just to say a big thank you for our stay at your amazing home. We especially appreciated all the little extra touches that helped make our week so memorable. It was terrific being able to spend a morning at the beach and then being able to pop home in minutes for lunch or shop or grab a coffee in your the village at Avalon. Sandy MacRitchie (London)
Loved the art work, the house, the spa, the pool table, the dishwashers, the beaches, the village, the restaurants - the peace and quiet. Cheers, Rita & Frank (Canberra)
Hi Carmen & Paul Our photos of your fabulous house are on the fridge - our inspiration for next holiday. The boys are looking forward to returning for more surfing lessons. Everything was perfect - loads of entertaining space, pool table, football table (and we must include the weather). Many thanks again. Watson Family (York)
Many thanks to the Meehan family for a memorable holiday - 2 weeks was not long enough! Kids had a great time which meant we had an even better time! Everything was so accessible. Loved the peaceful location, meals on the deck (October weather was better than I thought), the girls loved feeding the ducks on the front lawn. Warm regards, Britton family (Torquay, UK)
Dear Carmen & Paul I think what you offer just about covers everything one needs for a great holiday. The Villa has proved to be the highlight of our visit to Australia - absolute paradise. Loved all the board games, we really enjoyed sitting down to play as a family after a day at the beach. We will certainly return. Gary, Bridget & kids (Bristol, UK Dec 08)
This is the most awesome villa, Carmen & Paul have not only thought of everything you are ever likely to need, but genuinely cared about the quality of our holiday - the home from home facilities - from the pantry extras, the file of information for people staying, the kitchen fixtures & fittings and of course the thoughtfulness of the decorated Christmas tree (& the marvellous "singing Santa") - just everything. Doherty family (Dublin) Summer 08-09
