The New South Wales region
Rozelle in an inner west suburb of Sydney. To the north is the wine growing Hunter valley. To the east are the many glorious beaches Sydney is famed for. To the south is the Royal National Park and the coastal route to Melbourne. To the west is the Blue Mountains, the Great Dividing range, and the gateway to the Outback.
Rozelle is an old inner city suburb. It is just over 4km from the city centre and 5km from Circular Quay. Once the home of waterside workers and miners, the little terrace cottages have been gentrified. But Rozelle still retains the village atmosphere where people greet each other, and the best place for coffee is constantly changing.
Rozelle has many vintage clothes shops, a few art galleries, yoga studios and therapy centres, whilst neighbouring Balmain has more up market boutiques, some bookshops and many restaurants. There are three separate weekly markets - a growers market, a craft market, and a trash and treasure market - in the area. The fish markets are 3km away.
There is Callan Park, a harbour side park 100 metres away with a 7km waterfront running track for the so inclined. There are lots of public swimming pools, both indoor, outdoor, including an historic in-harbour pool close by. There are two gyms within 5 km.
Bondi has the closest beach, the other side of the city approximately 14 km away. You can catch a bus to Darling Street Balmain ferry to explore the city by water.
There are food shops within 200 metres but it is better to cross Victoria Road (250m) to find the best selection of organic, bakeries, a butcher, fine chocolate shop, ATMs and a post office.
The temporary Sydney exhibition centre is just over 2 km away.
