If you've seen the television series 'Home & Away' you will be familiar with this area. 'Summer Bay' (Palm Beach) is a ten minute drive away - beautiful and unspoiled.
Pittwater is the Northern peninsula of Sydney's Northern Beaches, about 45 minutes from the Sydney Harbour Bridge. It's a narrow strip of land with peaceful bays on one side (Clareville, Taylor's Point) and surf beaches on the other; Bilgola, Avalon, Whale and Palm beaches - all stunning golden sand beaches with sea pools.
A short ferry ride will take you over to The Basin which is a picturesque swimming lagoon in National Park bushland where you'll always see wallabies and native parrots as well as other wildlife.
Avalon Village is our closest shopping area, it's about 15 minutes walk (easier on the downhill than the up!) 3 minutes drive or there are buses. There's a supermarket, excellent bookshop, French patisserie and lots of great cafes that serve good food.
We have many restaurants in the area, including the internationally famous Jonahs and Barrenjoey House but also many good brasseries and take-aways.

The New South Wales region
Sydney's Northern Beaches - and the Pittwater peninsular are world renown for beautiful beaches and natural bushland. There are dozens of excellent surf beaches as well as sailing in Pittwater inlet. While the area is very quiet and natural, it also has dozens of restaurants, cafes and small shops that are delightful to browse in.
In the summer the area is the holiday destination of some of the world's most famous celebrities and is well-known around the world as the location of the television show 'Home & Away' which can been seen being filmed locally most of the year.
Only an hour from Sydney CBD but a world away.
Avalon Village - 5 mins drive - has cafes, restaurants and boutique shopping.
Bilgola Beach is a beautiful surf beach with a sea pool and a nice cafe. It is not as well known as many of the other beaches and doesn't get too crowded.
Palm Beach (also known as 'Summer Bay' to Home & Away fans) is also a wonderful surf beach, much bigger and with a sea pool and a few shops. To get one of the best views in Sydney, walk to the top of Barrenjoey Headland to the Lighthouse. From there you can look out to the central coast and back down the Northern Beaches. Dolphin sightings are common as are whales in the season.
Clareville Beach is a harbour beach on Pittwater and suitable for small children. There are grassy areas to picnic on and BBQ's, very nice in the evening for a picnic.
The Basin is Sydney's best kept secret. Access is by ferry at the Palm Beach jetty and the trip takes about 10 minutes. The lagoon is great for kids and there is plenty of wildlife in the camping ground. There is also a walk up into the National Park.
