The Swiss Alps / Valais/Swiss Alps region
This is a beautiful part of the Swiss Alps with a cold winter climate and hot summer climate. Excellent skiing in winter with superb facilities for enjoying the outdoors in the summer too. Steeped in history from the Roman times in Martingy to the salt mines in Bex or the dinosaur footprints at Emosson, or perhaps try water canyoning in Champery, there is plenty to see and do for all. The resort Therme Park is a spa complex with the renovated leisure park reopening during the summer to guests. The waters come from the rocks at 33C all year round and many spa treatmentsa are available to visitors through the complex reception. Beside the spa there is a swimming pool and tennis courts available to hire as required on site. This is all overlooked from the flat with stunning views of the local countryside and mountains. Most activities are catered for locally and can be enquired about at the tourist office in Champery or the hotel on site a mere telephone call can book a preferred time as you desire. With easy access from motorway routes and to the airports at both Geneva and Zurich there is little to stop anyone visiting for a few days break or longer stays.
Swiss Portes du Soleil / Champery area
There are many places to visit , things to see and do for all ages in the close vicinity. Whether you are seeking a beautiful stroll in the gentle mountain walks through the foothills of the alps or something more strenuous higher up the mountain. Maybe lunch in an award winning restaurant on the mountain topp would be more inviting. The cable cars run all summer and very little walking is necessary to reach some of the best views and restaurants in the Swiss Alps, almost on the doorstep. The little mountain at the of the road, a 10 min strool, gives you access to: Chateaux de Chion on Lake Geneva, Montreax, film capital of Europe, Verbier and Villars for some extensive ski runs, Champery for its mountain biking and rock climbing, Sion for its beautiful architecture and culture, Evian, Gstaad, Lausanne, Geneva, Champery, Monthey, Chamonix, Lake Blanc for dinner on the restored 1930's paddle steamer whilst you sail around the lake, Mers De Glace for a more strenuous trip out across the ice field, Steam Adventure Park in Rhone Valley for the younger ones to enjoy. a visit to the many vineyards in the locality or the salt mines at Bex. All of these sites are easily reached by train which is reliable and reasonably priced. However for greater flexibility a car is easier and there is plenty of parking at the resort. Underground parking is also avaiable at a premium.
How to get there
The quicker routes tend to be via Geneva and most major and low cost flyers go to this destination even from provincial airports. Easyjet flies from Gatwick and Luton airports, BA fly from both Heathrow and Gatwick. Bristol and Bournemouth are also popular. Swiss also fly from London City Airport and occasionally from Heathrow. There is also a direct route though Switzerland from Lausanne or Bern to the Rhone valley from which it is only a 15minute ride up the mountain to the resort. The resort is a spa complex however the facilities are being upgraded at present and the swimming complex and leisure facilties are not dur to reopen until the end of June 09. The skiing is excellent through Champery a short ride up the mountain either by train from the end of the road, a 10min walk or by car. This then links into the Portes du Solieil. Equally, there are numerous other things to do locally; mountain biking, rock climbing, walking, horse riding, canyoning, relaxing around the lake or dining in one of the many fine restaurants nearby. To name just a few things to keep you busy.
