The best place on earth to sleep, the safest place to sunbathe and the most therapeutic waters. (see evidence below ***) We have just negotiated free off-peak access for our visitors to a newly opened resort and swimming complex within 200 metres of the apartment!

The Dead Sea is unique, the atmosphere is special and the whole experience is within 40 minutes drive of the capital Amman and the main airport. it is also a brilliant base for exploring Northern Jordan -- the baptism site, Mount Nebo, Makawir and Herod's Castle, Jordan's extinct volcano, Lot's Cave, the Madaba mosaic, Wadi Mujib, the Jordan Valley, Umm Qais etc.

See the night-time lights of Jerusalem, Jericho and Bethlehem from your own balcony, as the sun sets over the Dead Sea. The apartment is newly built to high local standards. There is a lift, good air conditioning, underground-parking and a small swimming pool. Every room has a balcony; the main bedroom looks towards the sunrise and the other rooms face the Dead Sea. The apartment is an oasis of calm and comfort from which to contemplate the near Biblical-scenes around you as you rest, relax and recuperate in temperatures often 10 degrees warmer than Amman. This is the lowest luxury apartment available for rent in the world!

*** EVIDENCE

BEST SLEEP -- because the Dead Sea is 400 metres below sea level, the atmospheric pressure is higher and there is more oxygen in the air, as well as more magnesium and bromine, which tend to reduce tension; the air is unpolluted, there are hardly any allergens, and the humidity is usually low.

SAFER SUNBATHING -- the sun's rays have further to travel! which means they are more scattered; this is enhanced near the Dead Sea itself by the evaporation haze of protective aerosols; the result is a reduction in the intensity of the harmful lower wavelength UVB rays.

THERAPEUTIC SWIMMING -- normal sea-water has 3% salt, the Dead Sea 32%, with high concentrations of magnesium, calcium, bromine, and potassium; it's restful and good for the skin and painful joints, as well as the circulatory system. Black Dead Sea mud has these same properties and is wonderful for cleansing and softening your skin.

NB When you rent the apartment we offer an individual support package for all our visitors, including good-value car hire with a free local SIM card; contact us for more information.

Further details indoors

The apartment is light and airy and spacious. It easily sleeps four, with room for a fifth on the comfortable sofa-bed in the sitting room. The kitchen and dining areas are well-equipped for four and again a fifth can easily be accommodated.

There is a modern shower, a modern kitchen (with a hob, fridge-freezer and micro-wave), and a general sense of calm, practical quality. We have lived in the apartment as our home from time to time. There is original art on the walls and hand-made local rugs in the bedrooms, so it is easy for you to feel at home as well. Downstairs there is a small pool, for cooling off; shared with the other apartments in the building, but in reality you will usually be the only ones around. In the development opposite there are larger pools and we are trying to negotiate occasional access; please check with us on progress!

The problem at the Dead Sea is a lack of infrastructure. It is coming but slowly. The prices generally reflect the wonderful location but the unfinished nature of the surroundings. The apartment itself provides everything you need and could wish for; the views are genuinely some of the best in the whole area -- very memorable; but there is still a lot to be done before the area is finished -- see below.

Further details outdoors

Be warned, this is frontier country, a region in transition; and it's moving fast. The plans are ambitious, work has begun but it's far from complete. When it is, Jordan's Dead Sea coast will be one of the premier, must-visit tourist locations in the world -- the lowest point on earth!! Get in before the crowds. Experience the authentic and enjoy a very special holiday or warm long-weekend in winter. Or come and stay for a month or two.

The good thing, for many, is that there are hardly any no clubs or pubs, few fast-food outlets and a shortage of some mod-cons. That's all part of the charm. Come now to know it as it was -- camels and goats still wandering daily between the apartment blocks, Arab horses racing for fun along the main road, and bedouin families living nearby in simple, sprawling tents.

We are giving an honest picture. It is not right, yet, for everyone. But dozens of our guests have been enchanted and count the Dead Sea as one of the most memorable places they have ever visited.

It is also a very good and imaginative base from which to explore the whole of Northern Jordan, with all the attractions and important sites described elsewhere on this page. From October to April the weather is wonderful, warm and relaxing. Use the apartment as somewhere to sleep and recuperate and escape from European winters and high fuel bills.

Make your own personal pilgrimage to the landscapes and locations from which Christianity sprang. Research before you come and you will find you are alone, exploring important places almost no-one else knows about. In that context we are happy to discuss special rates for longer-term visitors.

You may even find you save money compared with staying in chilly Europe; you certainly will if you combine your stay with high-quality local dentistry, or buying a couple of pairs of new spectacles at 20% of the cost you're used to paying.

We know of one or two other owners who are willing to rent out their apartments.

Also, if you are interested in a two-centre or three-centre holiday (including Aqaba and Wadi Rum) let us know and we may be able to create a special package for you. Certainly we can offer a special deal to include car hire from and to the airport in Amman, with as much or as little help and support as you want during your time in Jordan.

The Madaba/Dead Sea region

The northern half of Jordan is less well known than the south, with its world-class sites of Petra, Wadi Rum and the warm waters of Aqaba but it has just as much to attract the thoughtful traveler. We are keen to persuade those who stay in our apartment on the Red Sea, or with our bedouin friend in Wadi Rum, to explore further and come to the Dead Sea. It is a perfect base (particularly in winter) from which to visit the Baptism site, and the rest of the Jordan Valley; or the Hijjaz railway which still takes passengers every week from Amman to Damascus; or to brave the Allenby Bridge border crossing and spend time in Jerusalem. The whole area is awash with religious sites (Islamic and Christian): Lot's Cave, the mosaic map of the Holy Land at Madaba, Nount Nebo where Moses surveyed the promised land; and Makawir and Herod's Castle where Salome danced the dance of the seven veils and John the Baptist was beheaded. The geology and the geography is stunning; at Umm Qais in the north, you look out across Lake Tiberius and the Golan Heights; Jordan's extinct volcano on the road up to the new Panorama Complex; Wadi Mujib, splitting the King's Highway like a cosmic axe cut. And there are significant Roman remains and settlements as well, from Pella to Jerash to the Citadel and amphitheatre in Amman, as well as many only half-discovered locations.

Sweimeh

Jordan's prestige King Abdullah II Convention Centre is couple of kilometers down the road -- we can provide very cost-effective accommodation for anyone attending a conference, an exhibition or a World Economic Forum!

Some of the most luxurious hotels and beaches in the whole region are stretched out along the shores of the Dead Sea; and here access to the Dead Sea itself comes at premium prices -- as much as £100 per person per day.

However, you can also float for free, if you explore on your own. Or you can go to the Amman Beach, a few kilometers to the south (and shown in the sixth photograph) where the facilities are good and prices are much lower -- though you should try to avoid Fridays, when it is ridiculously crowded. The same applies to the Water Park and many of the other attractions -- try to avoid the weekends.

Within less than an hour's drive of the apartment, along the Jordan Valley to the north is the baptism site, 'Bethany across the Jordan' where Jesus is said to have been baptised. A similar distance up in the hills is Mount Nebo, where Moses is buried, and the increasingly attractive town of Madaba, with the mosaic map of the Holy Land. For nature lovers there's the Mujib Reserve, where you can abseil up the river valley and the recently opened Panorama Complex, which puts the geology and the landscapes into context.

The capital of Jordan, Amman, is only 40 minutes drive away and is certainly worth visiting; there are important Roman remains at the Citadel and the amphitheatre and the nearby museum. And Amman has all the facilities and shops and attractions you would expect in a city with a population of well over two million. West Amman, with its clubs and bars and big brand stores seems much more Mediterranean than Arab.

Walking and hiking are obvious pursuits; cycling is easy and healthy around the Dead Sea and on the flat lands just to the north along the River Jordan; and bikes can be hired. Horse and camel riding are possible; the local bedouins offer rides particularly to the crowds at the weekends. A few restaurants are beginning to open (and one or two offer fast wireless internet); the local shops are beginning to understand some of the needs of visitors. You can bar-b-q on the balcony and charcoal is widely available; and you can just sit and relax in the late afternoon sun and know that doing nothing is as good for you here as anywhere in the world -- in fact, in our experience, you are likely to sleep longer and deeper and feel more refreshed at the Dead Sea than anywhere else!!

"Wonderful homely apartment with terrific views"

Having already stayed at Tudors tala bay aqaba apartment last year and again this year we had no hesitation in booking this one and we were not disappointed. Apart from being a few mins from the Dead Sea it is Also a perfect location for exploring northern jordan. Really nice to find a rental property with sparkling white bedding and towels plus coffee, milk, herbs and spices as it can be expensive to dine out in this area compared to amman and aqaba.
Thank you Tudor and Brenda for our great holiday.

"Home by The Dead Sea!"

A neat, well equipped apartment a short walking distance from the Dead Sea, with views of the Dead Sea and if you are lucky and are blessed with a clear day, views of Jerusalem as well! The views are better by night when the lights come on. The apartment was everything as explained to us. Great choice to stay at the Dead Sea on a budget.

"Perfect base for relaxation/exploration plus exceptional customer service!"

We can't sing high enough praise for Tudor for a providing such a wonderful bespoke holiday experience which covered North and South Jordan just perfectly. We booked a two week holiday to celebrate our wedding anniversary and although we are fairly independent travellers , Tudor's advice /guidance was superb and always provided with a personal touch, which is so rare these days.
The Dead Sea apartment is comprehensively and honestly described on the website. However, words alone cannot convey the feeling of peace, harmony and beauty - you just have to experience it yourself! A car is advised as essential and we would concur, but over a couple of days we enjoyed sunset/day walks (15mins) to local restaurants, the local dead sea beach as a day visitor - amazingly great fun ! .... and a rather basic but typically arranged “ arab style “supermarket”. It was a great base to stay and we would highly recommend a local driver (Issa) to take you to local tourist attractions - he is professional, reliable and a really nice guy. The apartment itself was very nice with home from home comforts (unless you need a big TV!), and has its own cold/hot water cooler dispenser. The balcony (3rd floor) is great for enjoying the views , candlelit suppers or family time with a warm balmy breeze. A local “housekeeper” could be contacted (via Issa) if anything was required. We did have a power cut in the area one time, but received a prompt response and the situation was managed very well. For self caterers, we would advise purchasing some provisions before you arrive at the apartment. All in all , here you can experience raw Jordan, and expect amazing places, great photos and lovely memories! Heartfelt thanks Tudor and Issa.

"wonderful stay"

I /we really liked my stay at the Dead Sea. The location is very nice and the flat itself is very well equiped. It really has all you need and it feels very homely. It is very luxery.
The views from the living room and one of the bedrooms to Jerusalem and Bethlehem is fantastic. What we alo enjoyed is doing our own cooking; that is so nice about renting a flat. We feel we got a lot closer to the real life.

I can really recommend it all and the help from the owner is very good too. We rented a car from Issa and all that worked and for a good price.
There is so much to do around the Dead Sea that it is worth staying at the area itself instead of Amman. We made several tours and it was always nice to come ' home' again.

"Helpful reliable contact in Jordan"

If you are contemplating going to Jordan but do not know who to contact. The owner of this place is terrific. I was traveling with our three young children and their grandmother so I was a bit intimidated about just doing the planning myself.
But now that I have been I highly recommend just getting in touch with Tudor and staying in his property.

He has a friend Issa who does the management and ground support. We used him to drive us all over Jordan - Dead Sea to Petra - Petra to Wadi Rum- then to Aquaba. He was very professional yet kind and friendly. His prices are really competiitive and so much better than you will get through a travel company or hotel. There were no safety issues at all!

I am just sorry I did not take pictures of Issa and his really comfortable car.
