The West Country / Dorset region
Swanage has a population of over 11,500 people and in the summer months this number nearly doubles. The town is located in between the Purbeck Hills and is on the east side of the Isle of Purbeck in Dorset.
The area has something to offer for everyone, from its award wining beaches to the beautiful countryside, there is loads to see and do.
The town has a range of shops ranging from small gift shops to two medium sized supermarkets, the following banks have branches in the town: Lloyds TSB Ltd, Barclays, HSBC and Natwest. There are two post offices in the town, the main post office located in the town centre and small sub-post office at Herston in the VG Shop.
Swanage has a wide range of tourist attractions, The Steam Railway, Durlston Country Park, Victorian Pier, Two Public swimming pools, Tennis courts, Indoor & Outdoor bowling greens and between Swanage and Studland a large golf course to name just a few.
The area has many miles of footpaths and bridleways making it the ideal place for exploring for walkers, cyclists and horse riders.
Swanage has many pubs and a night club and the area is very popular on New Years Eve with visitors coming from all over the country to party in the town. Most of the revellers go our in fancy dress and the lower part of the High Street is closed to traffic and the parties spill from the pubs onto the street.
The Swanage / Swanage Bay area
The beach at Swanage with its gently shelving sandy shore and clear water that has won the prestigious European Blue Flag award on many occasions
There are great walks from the flat, turn left and walk to "Old Harry rock" over looking Poole. Or turn right and take the cliff path which is a 95 mile stretch of outstanding geology in between Dorset and East Devon which is now designated as a World Heritage Site.
Or 8 minutes walk and you will find the Swanage Railway which is a heritage steam railway that runs through the Isle of Purbeck. At 6 miles long the railway follows the route of the old Purbeck branch line in to Corfe Castle

Ideally positioned for the beach – one step outside the front door. Fantastic views across the bay while you eat your breakfast then off out to read the plaques on the pier! We had a lovely long weekend in mid-March and the weather was beautiful. Many thanks

Spacious apartment on two floors with two bathrooms - perfect for travelling with 3 generations of the family! Good showers and well-equipped kitchen. Library of books and games was a bonus. Stunning views out over the bay and fantastic location right on the seafront, within toddler walking distance of the beach, pier, station, shops and park. We had a lovely family holiday here. Lots of steps to access the flat though so wouldn't be suitable for travellers with mobility difficulties.
Thank you so much for a great review. We are glad you enjoyed your holiday in Swanage and hope you choose 12B again!
