The Isle of Purbeck region

Purbeck is home to one of the South West England's most unspoiled coastal and rural landscapes and yet is within easy reach of London and Midlands, perfect for year-round holidays and short breaks.

Most of Purbeck lies within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty as well as being part of England's only natural World Heritage Site, designated for its outstanding geological interest.

With sandy beaches such as Studland and Swanage and rocky coves such as Lulworth and Kimmeridge, it's a perfect place for the whole family to enjoy the mild climate.

Swanage Bay

Swanage has many local attractions but if you prefer to explore there are also a number of days out on the doorstep. Travel on the chain ferry to Poole or explore the islands of the harbour stopping off at Brownsea Island the home of the scouting movement or the protected birds at Arne. The seaside town of Bournemouth is only an open topped bus ride away.

"Nice flat, lot of stairs. We enjoyed our stay, nice size for two with a small kitchen."

Nice flat, lot of stairs. We enjoyed our stay, nice size for two; the kitchen is small, calling it a galley is being generous. Everything worked and the flat was clean and tidy. The shower could have a bit more water flow. The flat needs access to some sort of cloths drying facilities. The location is a couple of minutes from the beach and five/ten minutes to Swanage town center. There is a fair/average pub 50 yards up the road, the Grand and Pines Hotels are five’ish minutes’ walk. Carol and Andrew are very helpful and knowledgeable, about the local area. We are going back

Many thanks for your review. We have 2 x 2 bed apartments, 2 x 1 bed apartments and a double room. All the apartments are different sizes some with large kitchens and one apartment has enough room for a kitchen table and a dining table and three sofas. This apartment has the smallest kitchen although perfectly functional. There is another 1 bed apartment which has a kitchen at least 4 times as big as this one, but this doesn't have a sea view. This guest has requested this apartment for two weeks next year and prefers the apartment with the smaller kitchen as it has a sea view. We would like to create access to as small garden next year so that there is room to dry clothes/towels outside. This apartment is on the 2nd floor but there are other apartments on the ground and first floors. We do have an amazing location - 100 metres to the beach and off road parking. Within 2 mins walk there is a wonderful restaurant/bar/tapas bar on the beach serving snacks, drinks, afternoon tea, meals in a fabulous setting. The Crows Nest pub also serves great pub food with a lovely garden.

"Fabulous and beyond expectations!"

We are a family of four (2 adults and 2 children, 4 and 15)and have just returned from a last minute 4 night break at the Beachcomber. We spent our stay in the 1 bedroom apartment at the very top of the house. The children shared a sofa bed in the longe area, with no problem. The view of the beach was lovely and the apartment was beautifully clean. The kitchen area was small but adequate with an oven, microwave, toaster, fridge, kettle and a breakfast bar. We only used it for breakfast. We were pleasantly surprised and loved the simple crisp clean decor. The bathroom was large with a shower, sink and loo, also room for a wardrobe and linen basket and airer for drying bits and pieces from a day on the beach. The owner Carol was really lovely..keeping in touch during our journey down there and waiting for us on arrival. Our whole experience was great from start to finish. Our only slightly negative point was the shower which gave an unpleasant needle like, experience, but this may be personal preference. ? Our little one cried and so the following nights we washed her with a jug and bowl, problem solved :) Hoping to persuade my parents to return with us next year!

Many thanks for such a great review. It is always so good to receive such positive feedback. We will check the pressure on the shower. We only get to know if there is a problem by guests letting us know. We like to keep on top of maintenance issues.

Ideal location, owners very nice and helpful. Loved the fact we were so close to beach and town with a friendly little pub right next door. Only negative I would have was the shower temp was inconsistent.

Many thanks for such a great review. It's always good to hear such positive feedback, and to hear that guests have had a genuinely enjoyable break. We really love Swanage and are very proud of Beachcomber Holiday Apartments. Thank you for letting us know about the water temperature in the shower so that we can rectify this.

"Lovely updated apartments two minutes from the beach.07596 403308"

Have just got back to Brighton and just wanted to leave a quick review to help future guests thinking of staying at the beachcomber in Swanage. I made an enquiry late last week on holiday lettings, bit last minute as fancied a long weekend in Swanage with my partner as she has never been before. I left my mobile and was glad of a call from the new owners who were more than helpful with my booking, in the end came late Friday and stayed to the Tuesday, I had stayed at the apartments before a few years ago so I knew the location was great but didn’t expect such a change, as the whole building had been painted the roof had been done and all the rooms had been painted and new furniture added and carpets and so nice to be able to park out the front, I must say I thought I knew Swanage as I have been a few times, but the new owners having lived in the Purbecks for a number of years were more than helpful in giving us some great new days out and walks to go on, also some nice pubs and restaurants to visit and if you come next year I would recommend you ask them about places to go The new owners have only been here a about 6 months when I spoke to them and I wish them well and look forward to next year and thanks for a great break.

Thanks for your review, and very glad you liked the apartments and we look forward to you coming back again in the summer we are always glad to help and trying our best to make everyone who stays here have a great time now all the work has been done, it is a special place and so much to do here in Swanage and the Purbecks.

"Absolutely awful place with major ongoing building work"

Stayed with two yound children in top floor flat. Builders starting removing and replacing roof tiles above our heads at 8.30. Spoke to owner and was told they had warned me, but they had done no such thing. Fridge/Freezer did not function correctly (defrosted and re-frooze without you knowing and frooze contents of fridge) which meant throwing all food away after daughter eas violently sick. Door on freezer compartment was taped on. Fire doors did not shut properly, electrical socket 10cm from kitchen sink (legal minimum is 30cm). WHen I complained the owner was rude and excused the problems by telling me it must be me as I was the only one that had complained. Would not recommend anyone to stay; Swanage is lovely but the BeachComber Holiday Apartments are not.

We are very sorry to hear that this holidaymaker did not enjoy his stay, and also a little surprised. We offered apartment at a discounted rate as we were refurbishing building. This was discussed and a rate agreed upon before booking the holiday. The apartment had recently been redecorated and furnished, we have not had any other complaints concerning the fridge being broken, and it seems to be working fine now. There was nobody working at all for the first three days, and then there were two people working on the roof. We did offer the complainant the remainder of his money back and a free short break after the work is completed. To our surprise he chose to stay in the apartment. I was the only person to speak to the complainant on the telephone and in person and was not rude on any occasion. Our business is hospitality and even under extreme situations would never wish to make a difficult situation worse. We have only recently bought the property and have been renovating the flats, the external work is now complete and all flats decorated and newly furnished. Disappointed that this holidaymaker did not take us up on our offer of a free shortbreak when the work is finished, it would have been an opportunity for him to have enjoyed a holiday. Its a great apartment with new furniture and sea views and a great location only 1 min from the beach.
