The Isle of Purbeck region
Dorset is situated in Southern England and has so much to offer having the sea and Jurassic coast as its southern most boundary, rolling hills, historic sites, villages with purbeck stone cottages, market towns and the lively connurbation of Bournemouth and Poole with modern shops and varied entertainments.
Dorset boasts the busy port of Weymouth in the West, the historic county town of Dorchester close to the Cerne Abbas Giant, the elevated town of Shaftesbury in the North and the ancient priory dominating the harbour and centre of Christchurch in the East. Further afield the New Forest, Stonehenge and the cultural cities of Salisbury, Bath and Exeter are to be visited and their beauty discovered.
The climate is mild all year round having the effect of the sea to keep the extremes of both heat and cold at bay - perfect spring, summer, autumn and winter days are to be found in this gem of an English resort.
Swanage is a busy little seaside town with a mile of safe and gentle shelving sandy beach (Blue Flag award in 2010), an old stone pier, a long, more recently built wooden pier, coastal footpath walks, caves, a country park, and many local shops, restaurants and pubs.
Swanage and the surrounding area boasts numerous activities to take part in, just a few of these are : watersports (sailing, rowing, wind and kite surfing), scuba diving, fishing (trips leave the old stone pier for Old Harry Rocks and Durlston Bay), crabbing (just below the apartment is the best line crabbing for children and adults in the world...possibly!), beach relaxation, golf (the stunningly situated Isle of Purbeck golf course is a mere 30mins drive away), tennis and putting, cycling (cycle hire is available from a number of different outlets), walking (the SW coastal footpath runs past Swanage), birdwatching (the scenic RSPB reserve at Arne is 10 miles), horse riding, gliding, and rock climbing (outdoor and indoor).
Local festivals include : Blues and Roots (March & Oct); Jazz (July); Swanage Regatta (July/Aug); Folk (Sept) and the Purbeck Arts week May/June).
Other places to visit include Lulworth, Durdle Door (a naturally eroded, giant stone arch standing proudly in the sea); Clouds Hill (home of Lawrence of Arabia); Thomas Hardy's cottage (local author); Monkey World (an ape rescue centre); Farmer Palmers and Putlake Adventure Centre (places to meet the animals, see the farm working at first hand and enjoy the home-made produce); Brownsea Island (home of the beginnings of the Scouting movement and a sancturay for wildlife including the red squirrel); Bovington Tank Museum; The Blue Pool; Moors Valley Country Park (encompassing Go Ape - a high rope experience in the tree tops) and not forgetting the Steam Railway which travels up the valley to Corfe Castle and transports you back to a bygone era.

"If you are in Swanage this is the place to stay"
The location is ideal having views over the sea. It is minutes from the town.
However you do need to be fit if you have the top floor apartment!
Thank you for your review - the comments speak for themselves but I believe the reward to be well worth the climb!

We have enjoyed a fabulous holiday in Swanage and unquestionably the Island View apartment has contributed hugely to it. What a wonderful location, a view that never disappoints and a brilliantly laid out apartment. Swanage offers great delights and the apartment allow you to enjoy them all at a wonderful pace. Can't wait to stay again.
I am delighted that your holiday in Island View was such a success from many aspects. I look forward to welcoming you all back on any return trip in the future.

"Perfect romantic retreat"
We have stayed here twice now and have completely fallen in love with the place. Our last stay was in fact our honeymoon and we will definately be returning year after year. Easy for the beach (stones throw away) and the accomodation is of a very high standard. The property owner always makes us feel especially welcome and we consider her to be a true friend. We wouldn't dream of staying anywhere else.
Thank you for your kind comments Mr. & Mrs M...absolutely delighted to have beeen the choice for your honeymoon. I look forward to welcoming you back for many years to come.

"Found our Shangri La"
You have to be mobile as it is on 3rd floor, but the view is worth the climb upstairs. Would have liked some hanging space for our clothes, used the clothes airer . We had to contact owner on a couple of matters and she was most helpful. We loved Swannage, it is like going back in time but provides all the facilities. While we were staying at Island View the weather was mixed nd it was a wonderful view of the waves crashing in to the harbour. We will go back, have to put a plaque on the pier noting our stay so that the grandchildren can find it one day!
So very glad you enjoyed your stay in Island View - I look forward to welcoming you back to Swanage in the near future.

"Stunning location with everything required for a stress free break."
Everything from booking, communications, check-in, and facilities available was spot on. The proprietor was very friendly and I felt like I was corresponding with an old (not too old) friend. The location is right on the esplanade at Swanage with uninterrupted views towards Isle of Wight. The flat has a great maritime feel and I loved the porthole window between rooms. There was nothing additional that we needed but if there had been, I felt it would have been no trouble whatsoever and I wouldn't have hesitated to ask.
We were there for family celebration and had a very enjoyable week with loads of photos to remind us of our stay.
It was a pleasure to accommodate your family group for your special celebrations....(not too sure about the reference to the proprietor's age though!)
