We think Sutri is a very special place from which to base a great holiday. We’re in a private condominium, which means no traffic, only villas and neighbours that you’ll never see. Good food available everywhere, fresh fish daily. We’ve lived here for 20 years!

Sutri itself is a gem. Built almost 3000 years ago (the times of King Solomon!) and inhabited ever since, so you can imagine the history and charm. Rome is only a 30 minute drive away, need we say more? The Vico Lake is a great place to cool off and get some warm sun or rent a canoe – only 15 minutes away (you can run there or bike in about an hour). If you prefer the Mediterranean, then go to Tarquinia 45 minutes. Of course there is Tuscany, which we border on and you can come and go to Florence in a (long) day. If you fancy Umbria, then that is also just on the other side of the Tiber river.

Other attractions include a water-slide park at 5 minutes drive and Le Querce Golf Club at 10 minutes.Click on the links in the navigation bar on the left to see more of Sutri, Rome, Vico Lake, Viterbo, the Meditteranean at Tarquinia, Le Querce Golf Club and more

You can use our back yard where there is a trampoline, a BBQ, goalposts to play soccer. There is also a basketball hoop that you can use.

The residential complex has soccer pitches and 8 tennis courts of which on is one red earth and one is covered (pay for use).

The apartment is a converted in law suite which is part of a larger villa where we live. It has independent access, but you will be sharing the grounds with us (the owners). No rowdy tenants, please!

The Lazio region

Sutri is in the northern part of the Lazio region in full Etruscan territory. We are in the volcanic lake region with rolling countryside and thick vegetation.

Click here for a detailed map of what is around:

Sutri is an ancient Etruscan settlement, which means it was founded before the Roman empire ever begun. It is on the Via Francigena which means it was a main stopping place for all pilgrims on their way to Rome. The place is literally “bursting” with history: Etruscan, Roman, Medieval and Renaissance. Sutri Music and food festivals are organized at different times of the year.

Walk the little streets or sip an expresso in the piazza. Eat a pizza on the terrace overlooking the necropolis on the Cassia. Visit the amphitheatre that is dug into the mountain and where scenes of The Gladiator were shot.

Find your way into the Mythreum or into the fascinating Crypt below the Cathedral. Need more ideas? Careful though, you may get so caught up with Sutri that you forget that you are only 30 minutes from Rome…

Colle Diana is a residential suburb of Sutri with about 300 villas. It has a sports centre (with tennis and soccer pitches and a planned pool), a coffee bar and a pizzeria (indoor and outdoor). Our home is on the "panoramic" side with sunset view.
