About this location
The Bearn region
Aquitaine is a beautiful and diverse area of France, which boasts some of the most spectacular beaches and mountains within the department of “Pyrénées Atlantiques”. You can even combine skiing and the beach within the same week if you visit at Easter!
This region holds no boundaries to those with a sporting prowess: the coast offers sun, sea and surfing while the mountains the opportunity for climbing, walking and winter skiing both cross country and downhill. The Pyrenees and surrounding valleys are a favourite for walkers of all abilities. In and around Susmiou, there are gentle country walks, rambling and for the more adventurous the local stages of the GR10 (Pyrenees coast to coast walking route) or the well travelled Pilgrimage route of St Jacques de Compostelle.
If you desire a more relaxing holiday however, you will not be disappointed. There is the elegant shopping and sophisticated life in Pau, Biarritz, Bayonne or St Jean de Luz – all within an hours drive - or simply exploring the local markets and people watching from the numerous cafés and restaurants.
Les Trois Anes is situated in the village of Susmiou, just outside Navarrenx. It is a few minutes walk to the local supermarket and boulangerie, where you can buy freshly baked bread, croissants and delicious cakes.
Susmiou is very conveniently situated, within an hours drive from both the Pyrenees mountains and the Atlantic coast, and overlooks the beautiful mountain range. It is a short walk from Navarrenx, a traditional Bastide town, which has a beautiful open-air swimming pool, tennis courts and numerous bars/restaurants. Navarrenx also boasts a famous river, which hosts the annual World Salmon fishing championships and there is the opportunity to go swimming, rafting, canoeing and canyoning.
A local market can be found in Navarrenx on a Wednesday morning throughout the year and a Saturday morning during the summer, where you can sample local produce and watch the world go by whilst enjoying a drink in the town square.

"A lovely, well equipped house in a a beautiful part of France"
We stayed at Les Trois Anes for 2 weeks in July and are a family with 2 teenagers. The house is in a very peaceful hamlet within walking distance of Navarrenx. It is very well equipped, with every home comfort including DVDs, games, a cool box and even a picnic mat. The English owners live next door and were so helpful in helping us plan our days, with suggestions on walks, swimming spots, beaches and parking. Their advice and maps were invaluable. We found the area very unspoilt and were able to travel to Biarritz, Spain and the Pyrenees all within 1.5 hours.

"Quality accommodation in ideal location."
We stayed In February to ski and search for a longer-term rental. Shona and Ken are welcoming hosts and generous with useful information on walks, restaurants, bars etc. The gite is well-equipped with a large log-burning fire for cold spells. We walked into Navarrenx several times (15 minutes) for a drink or to go to a restaurant. It's only a 5-minute walk to a supermarket. All-in-all a well-run and good-value holiday let.
