The British Columbia region
British Columbia (BC) is the western most province in Canada and is bordered by the Pacific coast to the west, on the northwest, by the U.S. state of Alaska, Alberta to the east, and by the US states of Washington, Idaho, and Montana to the south.
The Southern Interior of BC, where Sun Peaks is situated, is conveniently located between the Pacific Coastal Mountains and the Rockies. Sun Peaks is an ideal stopping place if driving from Alberta to the Coast. Originally the area was explored and opened up by road and rail, as the early European settlers sought easy routes to access the Pacific Coastal areas from the Prairie land to the east. Nowadays, the area is home to those seeking a less hectic lifestyle that is active and healthy, while still maintaining a close connection to big cities, like Vancouver to the west and Calgary to the east.
The area is blessed with abundant rivers, lakes and open spaces that afford many kinds of recreational activity . The summers are hot and dry, allowing for a wide variety of summer activities. Moderately wet Falls lead to snowy winters, that allow for the full range of winter activities. Unlike the coastal areas, our winters are sunny and dry, resulting in powder snow and skiing conditions unsurpassed anywhere in Cananda. Spring is a wonderful time to experience the awakening of new fauna and flora. All seasons are accompanied by an above average sunshine and the blue skies in B.C. seem to have a deeper blue than anyway else we have seen.

The resort has expanded to include 117 runs as well 12 gladed areas which allows you to choose the best terrain for your group and ability. There are also 40 km of groomed cross-country ski trails wonderful for Nordic skiing. Other winter activities also available are dog sledding, snowmobiling and ice fishing.

The Austrian National ski team also uses Sun Peaks as a training base.www.sunpeaksresort.com , the official website of Sun Peaks has a full calendar of events posted as well as snow reports.A favourite in January is the annual Ice Wine Festival , January 12-17 2010.

The Alpine Blossom and the Wine and Culture Festival are also very popular.
Sun Peaks is a great spot to use as a base to explore the beauty of the Interior of British Columbia. The world renowned Wells Grey Provincial Park, with its superb hiking, waterfalls and lakes is approximately an hour's drive away.
The Shuswap Lake is a relatively short drive away, full of summer activities, as is the historic Hat Creek Ranch and O' Keefe Ranch.
The City of Kamloops, Canada's Tournament Capital, is 45 minutes away. Why not enjoy a day exploring the B.C Wildlife Park and Kamloops Heritage Railway? A great way to finish it off the day is at one of the dinner theatre shows, the Great Canadian Lumberjack Show or Two River Junction. If outdoor music is more to your taste, Kamloops offers free nightly music concerts in Riverside Park during July and August, with a wide variety of musical genres. Kamloops was the original home of the Shuswap tribe. Experience the culture and history of the Secwepemic at the Museum and Heritage Park or at the annual Pow Wow in August.
