Home description
Monteviste is to be found in an old Italian hill village called Torre dei Nolfi overlooking a beautiful valley through which runs the river Sagittarius. The apartment itself is on two levels both with tiled floors and vaulted ceilings.
The bedrooms have balconies which look over the valley, while the lower floor (taverna) leads onto a lovely patio area again overlooking the valley towards the Maiella mountains. And whilst a lot of Italy can look a little parched in summertime, here in the Apennine mountains the trees, valleys and meadows are always green and inviting not to mention the beautiful Adriatic sea just 45 mins away at Pescara.

The Marche / Abruzzo / Abruzzo region
What shall we say about the region of Abruzzo? For one thing I suppose you could say we're a little spoilt here. We have three national parks and one regional park which altogether cover a third of the region and constitute 'Europe's Greenest Area'. We also have five lakes, three mountain ranges and 75 miles of coastline! We have many beautiful scenic walks, for example the walk of the hundred water-falls or take a mountain bike rides on one or two of the many off road tracks. This is also obviously fantastic country for all of you photographers and bird watchers - Buzzards are an every date sighting here. Painter's heaven - if instead you'd like to pass the days painting stunning scenes of old Italian villages or of the majestic Apennine mountains then this is the place to be.
We have three principle cities which are L'Aquilla, Pescara and Teramo. Several larger towns (called cittą) such as Avezzano, Chieti, Sulmona and Lanciano and then there are the hundreds of villages and hamlets (called paesini) to be discovered throughout the myriad valleys and mountains.
In the winter we have cross-country and downhill skiing on one of the many slopes, the most popular of which are centred around the ski resort of Roccaraso which itself has five chair lifts. And in the summer we have 790 square miles of national and regional parks to explore, not to mention the miles and miles of beaches; the nearest are at Pescara forty minutes away.
Sulmona / Torre dei Nolfi area
Summertime is the season of 'the festa', every town and village has its own patron saint and associated celebrations. Fireworks during the daytime - oh yes! Each festa is unique and generally involves lots of eating and drinking of local wines and speciality foods often followed by dancing late into the night.
At Torre dei Nolfi we have lots of festas' lasting all summer long including the 'Sagra di Grano' which celebrates everything associated with agriculture in this area principally olives, tomatoes, grapes and wheat. Very popular with our guests!
How to get there
Fly either to Pescara, in which case we are 40 minutes away, or else into Rome. There are two airports at Rome the larger one is called Fiumicino and is about 2.5 hours away, the other is called Ciampino and is about 2 hours away.
- You can fly to Rome and Pescara with RyanAir. At the moment the services are as follows: RyanAir to Rome from Dublin, East Midlands, Durham, Luton, Stanstead, Glasgow, and Liverpool RyanAir to Pescara from Stanstead. There is also the option to hop to Stanstead from Blackpool or Newquay - There are then flights to Rome provided by Jet2 and EasyJet as follows: Jet2 to Rome from Manchester and Leeds Bradford EasyJet to Rome from Aberdeen, Belfast, Bournmouth, Bristol, Cork, Doncaster, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness, Liverpool, Newcastle, Nottingham and Shannon
Cars can be hired from all three airports; probably the best mode of transport with which to explore the area.
Alternatively, there is a very economical train service from both Rome and Pescara to Sulmona which is then only ten minutes away.
Have a look at our website for car hire options, train and bus information.

Marvellous apartment with loads of original character. I loved the traditional pizza oven in the cantina when it was cooking with wood. The surrounding area is so beautiful, and the company was very good too. Highly recommended... Wenda - England
Breathtaking scenery - the place to really chill out. A lovely place and lovely just drinking wine on the decking - just the place to loose yourself. We enjoyed a relaxing holiday in a beautiful setting. Thanks Paula and Clive... Ann, Linda, Muriel and Christina, Cheshire, UK
Thanks Clive and Paula for a wonderful couple of weeks. we can't believe Abruzzo is so unknown in the UK. We'll put that right on our return home - or maybe we'll just keep quiet! :) If the puppy has dsappeared it's in Hannah's bag! Thank the villagers for us - they we're so friendly; the festival on the 15th will stay with us forever. Hopefully we'll return. Thanks again... Colin, Mary, Peter and Hannah, Essex, UK
I know the bible says that some people have entertained angels unawares. In your case it is "I think", the reverse. I have enjoyed the company of the host and hostess who seem like angels in disguise. Thanks a second time for another super time... Angelika, London
Grazie per l'ospitalitą e per la vostra gentilezza. La casa č molto graziosa e comfortavole ed il posto molto poetico. Speriamo di poterci ritornare in Primavera. Baci da tutti noi!... Paolo, Daniela, Francesco, Ornella, Salvatore, Sara, Daniele, Giuseppe e Giuseppina, Napoli, Italia
Thank you for a most enjoyable 1st time in Italy. Great house to stay in, loved Abruzzo. Thank you Clive for showing us around you've been an immense help. We look forward to coming back. P.S. The snow arrived on our 2nd day.. Yipee!!... John and Zoe Fahey, Leicester, England.
We're Barb and Tom from across the sea, from Canberra you see in the act. That might toss your thoughts asunder, now here's a clue we're from down under. Too many and varied places we went, until alas our vigour was spent. Now Paula and Clive assisted a lot, except for that we'd have lost the plot. Sadly it's time that we must go, here are our thoughts for the world to know. For this place we're sure we'll always yearn, but our age is such there's no return. But we'll tell our kids of this great place and they'll soon be here to take our place. Best wishes to Clive and Paula from Barb and Tom, Canberra, Australia
