About the home

Villa Ulignano is a beautiful detached property set in the heart of Abruzzo, it has the Maiella and Morrone mountain ranges as a backdrop. It's in a small hamlet just 5 minutes drive from the stunning town of Sulmona, which offers a wide selection of shops, bars and restaurants, as well as plenty of history and culture.

The self-contained apartment is connected to the farmhouse and boasts a fantastic countryside setting with superb mountain views. The open-plan kitchen/lounge area is furnished with comfortable sofas and has a table and chairs for dining. There is a main double bedroom and a further twin bedroom with bunk beds making the apartment ideal for families. The main room leads on to a balcony which is an excellent spot for an aperitif.

There is plenty in the surrounding area to see and do during your stay; Abruzzo's national parks are minutes away and the beautiful sandy beaches of the Adriatic coast are less than an hour's drive.

The apartment is completely self-contained with its own private external entrance. Consisting of 1 double bedroom, 1 bedroom with bunk beds and 1 shower room with w.c. The kitchen area has a modern fitted kitchen with a table and 4 chairs. The lounge area has 2 comfortable sofas, a TV, DVD player and log fire.

The property is set in a few acres of garden, grape vines and fruit trees which guests are welcome to make use of during their stay. There is a private terrace and garden plus ample, secure parking.

NB. Changeover days are flexible to help suit mid-week low-cost air fares. Prices include all services, towels and linen. A damage deposit of £100 (or €120) is required and is returned on day of departure.

The Marche / Abruzzo / Abruzzo region

Abruzzo is known for the Gran Sasso and Maiella National Parks, the largest protected area in the whole of Europe. It has a great deal to offer the holiday maker; you will find the highest peaks of the Apennines, the Gran Sasso (Monte Corno 9,560 feet), Maiella and Velino-Sirente, perfect for walking, climbing, cycling and kayaking. Its landscape of mountains, deep canyons and valleys offer a natural beauty rivaling any other region. The Abruzzo coastline has wide, sandy shores, high, jagged cliffs, narrow creeks, pebble beaches and in some places it is positively wild. With something to suit all tastes, traditional villages and historic towns, an astonishing wealth of art and culture, regional gastronomy, Abruzzo is said to be the last undiscovered region of Italy.

The Sulmona / Vallecorvo area

The town of Sulmona is situated in the centre of the Peligna Valley at the foot of the Maiella mountain range. The birth place of the great poet Ovid, Sulmona preserves its heritage of monuments, architecture and works of art. Today the town is also an important agriculture and commercial centre and is famous the world over for its confetti (sugar coated almond candies), and for its goldsmiths. The town offers a wide range of shops, boutiques and restaurants.There are also excellent sports facilities including tennis courts, a swimming pool and horse riding. About 10 mins outside Sulmona is an excellent waterpark with shaded picnic area, ideal for a day out. Lake Scanno is just a 20 minute drive, while the winter resort town of Roccaraso, central Italy's largest winter resort with snow and pistes open from November to April, is just 40 mins away.

OSTERIA DEL TEMPO PERSO (Pizzeria - Restaurant)
Vico del Vecchio, 7. Tel 0864 52545. Fantastic food in a fantastic setting and all at very reasonable prices. Worth booking a table as it can get very busy.

VECCHIO MURO (Pizzeria - Restaurant)
Via M. D'Eramo, 20. Tel 0864 50595. Eat in or outdoors in this amazing restaurant. Very reasonable prices for superb food. Definitely worth booking a table as gets very busy.

AL QUADRIVIO (Restaurant)
Via Mazara, 38. Great local food at great prices.

LA GOLE (Pizzeria - Restaurant)
A fantastic restaurant on the outskirts of Aniversa Degli Abruzzi. Amazing views and great food at very reasonable prices.

Getting there is straight forward, if you're coming direct you can either fly to Pescara or one of Rome's 2 airports. EasyJet, Ryan Air & Jet2 all provide cheap flights to Italy, Pescara airport being around 40 mins from the apartment and the airports at Rome being 2 and 2 1/2 hours away.

To get out & about and explore the region fully, it's best to have use of a car. Hire prices vary a great deal, however, EasyCar, Atlas Choice and Travel Supermarket & Sicily by Car provide a good service at a reasonable price. If you decide to take the train, we recommend the early train from Termini station in Rome. The route winds through the hills separating Lazio from Abruzzo before descending spectacularly into the 'Conca Peligna' where Sulmona is located.

“Nice apartment in a fantastic region, and great value” A great region to visit with lakes and mountains all within very close reach and the coast is about 1.5 hours away. The local town Sulmona has great character and Roman architecture along weith some good restaurants and fantastic ice cream shops on the main street to entain the family during the evening promonade. Local lakes are good for swimming but local pools are ok for leisure swimming only but not for anything more. You need a car in this region for dialy life and to see the sights. The apartment is very nice and has been well thought through and has decent sized and comfortable beds. “Home from home in a beautiful location” Lovely apartment with all the home comforts - nice shower, well equipped kitchen, outside eating / relaxing area, books and dvds if you fancy a night in. The owners live next door and couldn't be more helpful - spent a pleasant couple of evenings chatting over a glass or 2 of wine! The area is beautiful - lovely to be away from the traditional tourist trap - with a couple of lovely pools near by if you fancy a day away from exploring the scenic towns and mountains. A visit to Lake Scanno is well worth it too! Response: Thank you, we hope to see you in Abruzzo again one day
