Set in idyllic countryside on the Suffolk/Essex border, this cottage is part of a grade II* listed farmhouse dating back to the 15th century and mentioned as a manor in the Domeday book. It has been tastefully renovated, with some exposed beams, limewashed walls, brick floors and inglenook fireplace. As well as the sitting room with sofas and woodburner, there is a kitchen dining room with hob, cooker and granite work surfaces together with a conservatory which provides a great extra summer dining space. The cottage is heated by the woodburner (all logs included) and oil filled radiators. One double bedroom and one twin bedroom with pine and painted country furniture. There are glorious countryside views from the cottage with its own secluded garden, patio with outdoor furniture and BBQ and access to the shared 4 acre grounds, including kitchen vegetable garden, fruit garden, orchard and fields with a small flock of pedigree Suffolk sheep. Located 1/2 mile up a track in a beautifully rural setting, yet within easy reach of Sudbury (3 miles) and the local historic villages of Lavenham, Long Melford, Cavendish & Clare. This is the countryside of local painters Constable and Gainsborough with Flatford and Dedham nearby. The beaches of the Suffolk and Essex Coast are not far and Cambridge and Newmarket also make good days out. Horse riding, cycling, swimming, sailing, golf & spa available locally - with a storage area for bikes and horses can be brought by arrangement. Excellent range of local footpaths and bridleways for walking etc. Local village with farm shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile and several other good pub restaurants make a pleasant walk.

Butlers Hall Dairy is an ideal location for exploring East Anglia with a huge range of things to do. As well as the beautiful timeless Suffolk villages locally, towns such as Cambridge with its Backs and colleges makes a good day out, with Newmarket and horse racing nearby. Take a trip to the beaches of Frinton-on-Sea, Aldeburgh or Southwold or explore the creeks and boating on the East Coast at Pin Mill and Mersea Island. Locally there are several nature and RSPB reserves including Minsmere, Fingringhoe and Wicken Fen. You are within reach of many art galleries, museums and antiques shops and there are lovely places including the local water meadows and river for drawing and painting. Each year there are agricultural and country shows as well as festivals including the Aldeburgh Festival, various food and drink festivals and Latitude not far away.


Situated in the Stour Valley on the Suffolk Essex border, home to the artists John Constable and Thomas Gainsborough, with Dedham and Flatford nearby. Explore the timeless historic Suffolk wool villages of Lavenham, Long Melford, Clare and Cavendish, with ancient churches and interesting half-timbered houses. Enjoy visits to the historic houses of Kentwell Hall and Melford Hall as well as Hedingham and Colchester castles. The area is well served with good restaurants and pubs and the local market towns of Sudbury and Bury St Edmunds have a an excellent range of independent shops, cinemas and theatres. Horse-riding, cycling, boating, sailing and golf and a spa are all available locally. Step out from the farm onto footpaths and bridleways, ideal for walkers and cyclists, with a village farm shop and pub/restaurant just across the fields.
