The Central England / Cotswolds / Cheltenham / Gloucester region

The Cotswolds are well known for breathtaking rolling countryside, gentle hillsides ('...wolds') and sleepy 'typically English' villages. This region is an area popular with both the English themselves and all visitors.
Hilly Orchard provides an ideal base for visits throughout the region including the spa towns of Bath and Cheltenham, and historic Cirencester, Gloucester, Bristol, Oxford and Stratford-upon-Avon....
Bath, a designated World Heritage Site, is one of Britain's most beautiful and historically significant cities; The Regency Spa town of Cheltenham is a significant venue for art/music/literature festivals; Gloucester's historic Cathedral featured in the films of J K Rowling's first Harry Potter books; Oxford is home to one of the most prestigious Universities in the World; visit Shakespeare's birthplace in Stratford-upon-Avon...
It's a short drive toTetbury, world-renowned for its unique Royal associations. Highgrove, home of HRH The Prince of Wales is situated just outside Tetbury, and Gatcombe Park, home of the Princess Royal is also nearby
Diverse shopping opportunities, from specialist boutiques & designer outlet, to world class antiques and chain stores.
Something for everyone...
The Stroud / Cainscross area
The Cotswolds has many well known attractions but here are a few of the more unique experiences within easy reach: local canal restoration, history in the making (www.cotswoldcanalsproject.org/brimscombe); take a trial flight in a glider, an adventurous way to take in the stunning local views; Bibury's Arlington Row, its origins dating from 1380, found in 'the most beautiful village in the Cotswolds' William Morris; the Severn Bore, a 'spectacular natural phenomena'; Hetty Pegler's Tump, part of the Cotswold's Neolithic history, and so much more..
It's a ten minute drive up to the Commons with some of the most beautiful National Trust managed common land in the country, with outstanding and far reaching views over the Cotswolds, and towards the Severn Estuary and Wales beyond. Horses and cattle roam freely across the Commons, and the grassland slopes are home to rare butterfly and wildflower species including thirteen species of orchid. Minchinhampton Common has many interesting and important archaeological features, some dating from the Neolithic period.

We enjoyed a lovely 3 night stay at Hilly Orchard and found it to be warm and comfortable with every facility you could want from a short stay - the Sky package was most welcome with an 8 year old to entertain in October! The location is great in that there are many places to visit within a short drive and we also enjoyed walking along the canal side just a short stroll from the apartment. We particularly enjoyed our visit to the National Trust's Woodchester Park just a 10 minute drive away, and to the Cotswold Animal Park, 50 minutes away through beautiful countryside. The only downside would be that being the top floor apartment we were very conscious of our 8 year old running between his room and the lounge and were constantly reminding him not to out of consideration for the people in the apartment underneath. |

I needed a quick lats minute break to get away from work and to just be. Arriving at Hilly Orchard I was worried that the photos may not live up as you hear such bad things about trips going wrong. But from the outside it looked welcoming and inviting. Then as soon as I got into the apartment all my worries were gone. I was over the moon, to the point I rang Jane straight away to say thank you. It was warm, welcoming, clean and to put it simply, everything I hoped. Being in Stroud I was able to revisit were my grandparents lived and I basically grew up, and rekindle old memories. I smiled the whole time and even stayed an extra night. Will 100% be going back very soon. |

We stayed at this apartment twice, 3 days each time, while visiting my mother who had just moved into a nursing home nearby. It could not have been a better location, nor could it have been a more suitable apartment for us. The living room has a beautiful view across the valley and has very comfortable furniture, good for our bad backs! Spotless and inviting, the extra touches of the owner such as biscuits, coffee, and milk in the fridge helped make us feel immediately at home. The only negative for some people would be the flights of stairs to the 2nd floor (3rd floor in American terms), but being on the upper floor helped make it quiet and provided the wonderful view. |
