The Central England / Cotswolds / Cheltenham / Gloucester region
The Cotswolds are well known for breathtaking rolling countryside, gentle hillsides ('...wolds') and sleepy 'typically English' villages. This region is an area popular with both the English themselves and all visitors.
Glebe provides an ideal base for visits throughout the region including the spa towns of Bath and Cheltenham, and historic Cirencester, Gloucester, Bristol, Oxford and Stratford-upon-Avon....
Bath, a designated World Heritage Site, is one of Britain's most beautiful and historically significant cities; The Regency Spa town of Cheltenham is a significant venue for art/music/literature festivals; Gloucester's historic Cathedral featured in the films of J K Rowling's first Harry Potter books; Oxford is home to one of the most prestigious Universities in the World; visit Shakespeare's birthplace in Stratford-upon-Avon...
Something for everyone, so many opportunities....
Stroud / Minchinhampton area
It's just a short walk to the heart of Minchinhampton with its narrow streets and mellow cotswold stone buildings, many dating from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Here you'll find the convenience store, several cafe/restaurants, a takeaway and The Crown serving food and real ale. On Thursday mornings there is a bustling Country Market in the seventeenth century Market House where local produce can be purchased. The Art Gallery and Antique Dealers are well worth a visit.
Minchinhampton, situated on a hill top, is surrounded by some of the most beautiful National Trust managed common land in the country, with outstanding and far reaching views over the Cotswolds, and towards the Severn Estuary and Wales beyond. Horses and cattle roam freely across the Commons, and the grassland slopes are home to rare butterfly and wildflower species including thirteen species of orchid. Minchinhampton Common has many interesting and important archaeological features, some dating from the Neolithic period.
The Villages of Amberley and Box provide alternate local award winning pub combinations of real ale and dining facilities within walking distance of Glebe, and there are more pub/restaurants dotted across the Commons. Winstone's Ice Cream Factory Shop near The Bear at Rodborough provides a convenient place to pause for a refreshing treat on a hot summer's day whilst enjoying the views into the Golden Valley.
The area is perfect for Walkers and keen fit Cyclists( lots of hills once you venture off the Commons!).
