LATEST NEWS: 4 DECEMBER 2014 AA INSPECTION AWARDS BOBBY'S NOOK 4 STARS!!!
Arrive to a warm welcome and a generous Welcome Pack including a tray of refreshments, tasty fresh eggs from our own hens etc. Treat yourself to a deliciously fresh hot drink from the brewing machine.
Bobby's Nook is a ground floor apartment situated in the village of Selsley, close to Stroud. Purposely converted to holiday accommodation, Bobby's Nook is a cosy and comfortable home from home for just the two of you (with no height restricted areas or sloping ceilings).
There is a level lawn area to the front, secluded garden (table, chairs, bench, loungers and barbecue also available) to the rear and safe onsite parking. The double bedroom has an ensuite wetroom with a walk in shower "you won't want to get out of"! The modern kitchen is a good size, is well-equipped and has a rural view across fields, (the Arts and Crafts period Selsley church can be seen in winter). There is also an extra table and chairs in addition to those in the dining area - perfect for breakfast or a quick snack.
The lounge area has a very comfortable sofa (from which to enjoy a fantastic view to the River Severn and Forest of Dean), flat screen TV with inbuilt DVD player, Radio/CD player and books and maps to borrow. There is also a desk where you can set up your laptop etc.
We provide a comprehensive Information Pack which is regularly reviewed and updated, detailing local amenities, suggested places to visit or eat, along with a large collection of leaflets. A WiFi internet connection is also provided free of charge.
We take pride in cleanliness and attention to detail. Towels, and kitchen and bedroom linen are provided. All guests have been impressed with how well equipped the apartment is and a recent couple suggested we highlight this in our information so that you won't need to bring your hairdryer or kitchen utensils! Also, plenty of storage space is provided to stow your belongings and hang your clothes.
The surrounding countryside is peaceful with amazing views especially to the west (distant River Severn, Forest of Dean) giving awesome sunsets in summer; relax... throw open the window blinds, and enjoy! Bobby's Nook is adjacent to the Cotswold Way and the attractive Selsley Circuit (5 miles of great variety and interest). Many beautiful, typically Cotswold, villages and bohemian Stroud, with its cafe culture and highly acclaimed farmers' market, much loved by many of our guests, are close by. There are also lots of events in the area including Cheltenham Gold Cup, Fairford Air Tattoo, Gloucestershire Steam Extravaganza, Bristol Balloon Fiesta and Gloucester Tall Ships. Good access to M5; visit Bath, Bristol, Cardiff, Gloucester, Cheltenham, Oxford, Stratford. If you are looking for a Cotswolds break with your loved one, whether energetically walking the Cotswold Way, cycle touring or simply relaxing, savour the delights of the Cotswolds' Stroud Valleys area with Bobby's Nook as your base.
There are many ways to spend your days and something for everyone; perhaps a visit to the romantic Rococo Gardens in Painswick, the National Arboretum in Westonbirt., the National Trust Newark Park or Slimbridge Wetlands Wildlife Reserve. Ordnance Survey maps of the area are available to borrow. In summer, while away a relaxing evening with a barbeque in the garden whilst watching a beautiful sunset in the distance over the Forest of Dean. There are also many local pubs and restaurants to sample; our information pack contains some suggestions but if you wish to cook at 'home' the nearest supermarket is just 1 mile away.
We are happy to say that we have two pubs within walking distance: The Kings Head, Kings Stanley, is approximately 1 mile and Google Maps says this takes 18 minutes to walk, and our local pub, The Bell, Selsley which has now re-opened after an extensive refurbishment and is serving very delicious food.
We are always happy to answer any questions you may have regarding Bobby's Nook and the area so please feel free to send us an enquiry. If you are celebrating a special event during your stay such as a birthday or anniversary and you would like something delivered before your arrival or provided for your loved one, please ask - we are very pleased to help whenever possible.
Late Deal 2 Night Breaks are available by special arrangement - please send an enquiry.

The Cotswolds region
There is so much to do in the Cotswolds that it makes this such a lovely place to stay! There is a huge range of well known events such as Cheltenham Gold Cup, Gloucester Tall Ships, Fairford Royal International Air Tattoo, the dangerous Cooper's Hill Cheese Rolling, Gloucestershire Steam and Vintage Extravaganza, the Bristol Balloon Fiesta etc. Before Christmas visit the German Market in Cheltenham to get inspiration for lovely pressies, (whilst sampling delicious gluwein and bratwurst) or enjoy the festive atmosphere of the Enchanted Christmas Illuminations of the National Arboretum at Westonbirt. There are also lots of other attractions such as the wonderfully romantic Rococo Gardens at Painswick (fabulous early Spring displays of vast drifts of snowdrops), Slimbridge Wetland Wildlife Reserve, the National Trust Newark Park... the list is endless. Many guests also recommend a visit to the Farmers' Market in Stroud and our two walking distance pubs: The King's Head, King's Stanley (1 mile) and The Bell, Selsley 2/3 mile which has recently re-opened following an extensive refurbishment and is serving very delicious food. There are also plenty of other lovely places to eat, some of which are recommended in our information pack. There are maps of the region you can borrow, however, if you would prefer to do your own research while you are here we also offer a free WiFi internet connection so that you can research your own destinations. Do bear in mind, however, that due to our rural location internet speeds are slightly slower than in urban areas.
From Bobby's Nook you will find many public footpaths, including the Cotswold Way. In fact, we are a stone's throw from the 5 mile Selsley Circuit which offers much interest and variety, and incorporates some of the area's local industrial heritage (details are in our information pack). There are superb views to be enjoyed from Selsley Common, just a short walk up the hill, where commoners still utilise their commoners' grazing rights in summer. If you like, you can also catch a bus to Stroud, visit the highly renowned Farmers' Market and have a coffee/tea in one of the many cafes (we like Mills Cafe in Withey's Yard). Selsley Church is the last of the great Cotswold wool churches and is famous for its beautiful stained glass window by William Morris. As mentioned above, our local pub, the Bell, is now open once again and is serving lovely food.

Thank you for your review.
The mirror mentioned in the review is a floor mirror and is designed to be free standing. Please see… https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=floor+mirrors&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=ZmcEVLnzB8Lm7Aayq4DQBg&sqi=2&ved=0CE0QsAQ&biw=1304&bih=707
This gives greater flexibility as guests are not all the same height and have appreciated being able to reposition the mirror as required. We have given this much consideration but do not feel it would be appropriate or useful to fix this mirror to the wall.
The following is the tourist information we provide to our guests
• A comprehensive Information Pack, reviewed and updated regularly, which includes
o Details of local places of interest including some quirky items such as the Severn Bore timetable
o Details of the opening times of the nearest Tourist Information Office
o Details of local amenities such as bus times, supermarket opening hours, directions to the cinema, doctors, hospitals, etc
o Details of recommended places to eat, pubs, restaurants, etc
• Current edition of Cotswold Life Magazine which gives details of the month's events, places to explore and more unusual aspects of the Cotswolds
• Current edition of Stroud Life weekly newspaper which gives details of local events and news and also a property section (useful for guests who are looking for property in the area)
• A drawer full of leaflets of interesting places to visit and maps
• A separate folder containing past Cotswold Life articles which give details of Cotswold events for the current year, places to visit, walks, etc and is a resource that is a work in progress
• Ordnance Survey maps of the area (one of which was appropriated by the reviewer!)
• A WiFi connection is also provided free of charge so that guests can research their own destinations
With regard to the comment “Lack of attention to detail”, we very much regret that the reviewer did not give more details as we are always open to new ideas and improvements. Our independent Feedback Forms and our own Guest Book (which can be viewed by everyone who stays at Bobby's Nook) have been full of accolades to the contrary, so it is very difficult to know what they had in mind. In the past, we have implemented many ideas from the Feedback Forms, making Bobby's Nook the well-equipped place it is today.
To put this review into context, the reviewers were on a busman's holiday and were bursting with 'professional' advice. Unfortunately their comment on departure was that it would have been nice to know what time we expected them to leave! We pointed out that this information is near the beginning of the Information Pack. If only they had glanced at the Information Pack they would also have seen the various pieces of information regarding local attractions.
