House | 3 bedrooms | sleeps 6
Four miles from Stroud, the property is peacefully located by the tiny village green of Old Bussage. It stands at the top of the wooded eastern slopes of the lovely Toadsmoor Valley, an unknown gem; the local landscape has been carved so as to produce more dramatic variation in the height of the land than is seen in many other parts of the Cotswolds. Lyncroft is not only great for friends and families wanting to take it easy but also for walkers; many circular walks of varying length can be undertaken in the lovely South Gloucestershire countryside straight from the front door, without any need to jump in a car.
Dogs ( well behaved ) are welcome and can be easily exercised. There is a large park nearby where they can run. The park also has playground equipment, goalposts and cycle ramps to entertain children of various ages. Children additionally have the ample south-facing garden to run around in at the same time as parents can enjoy a game of boules. Inside the house, the childrens' playroom has proved to be a large attraction and can be of great help to parents, especially if poor weather ever happens to interfere with holiday enjoyment.
Whenever we have asked guests for written comments, the one word that they have each chosen to use is 'beautiful'. Life can be very mellow here.

The Central England/Cotswolds region
Once you are here you may not wish to travel, but if you do, the Cotswold villages are always firm favourites. Why not visit some of the superb lesser known ones such as Stanton,Naunton and the Eastleaches ? Why not combine either walks or car journeys with examination of some of the outstanding Cotswold churches? Try Fairford and its full set of medieval stained glass window for a start.
Children love farm visits, Bristol Zoo, the Cotswold Wild Park and the GWR steam railway. Safari Parks are just a little further away. Mazes can be found at Longleat and Clearwell where caves are also located.
Lovers of historical buildings can visit Bath, Blenheim, Oxford and Stratford upon Avon; castles are found at Berkeley,Eastnor and Sudeley; National Trust properties are located at Chastleton, Snowshill, and Dyrham Park; Gloucester has its cathedral and Tewkesbury, Cirencester and Prinknash their abbeys. Bristol has a plentiful navigation history with its links to John Cabot and Isambard Brunel. Roman remains are to be found at Chedworth and Cirencester.
Regency Cheltenham draws large numbers of visitors to its literature, science, jazz, music and horse racing festivals, as do Oxford and Bath to their literature festivals.
Once you are here, you might easily not move anywhere unless except for the need to get food - the Bussage pub is a five to ten minutes walk away. There are other good pubs too, all of which serve food, in nearby villages such as Bisley, Eastcombe, France Lynch, Chalford, Oakridge and Frampton Mansell. Our favourite is 'The Bear' at Bisley. Those who wish to eat in restaurants are well catered for in Nailsworth - we like 'The Oldstone' - and Cirencester. Coffee shops abound : we particularly head for 'The Kitchen'in Minchinhampton,'Mills Cafe' in Stroud and 'The Lavender Bakehouse' in Chalford.
Eastcombe has a village grocery store and post office, while there is an express supermarket in Bussage as well. A full range of shops is to be found in Nailsworth and Stroud, including supermarkets. The award winning Stroud Farmers Market, which takes place every Saturday morning, has a national reputation. A walk around it in the sunshine provides a total feel good feeling.
In addition to the hustoric buildings further afield, Chavenage, Newark Park and Woodchester can be visited locally. Those who feel a need to combine swimming with lazing in the sun can use the lakeside beach in South Cerney. Those who feel the need to be more active can utilise local golf, swimming pool, riding and gliding facilities.
We love South Gloucestershire. It is a place which even somebody who does not spend long here will find it easy to blend into. You are unlikely to find lots of visitors, but you can anticpate that those who do come will be thankful, like yourselves, to have found a part of the Cotswolds which is slightly off the beaten track.
