The North West Italy region

Surrounded by the Alps and spectacular landscapes, Lake Maggiore is the perfect setting to relax pleasantly and amuse oneself, enjoying cultural activities and an unspoilt natural environment. Every little town by the lake, be it Arona, Stresa, Verbania, Cannero or Cannobbio, has old buildings, parks, Italian gardens and botanical gardens that make the beautiful environment even more amazing.

Lake Maggiore is a great tourist attraction and has plenty of musical and performing arts events, such as the Stresa Music Weeks, the Locarno Film Festival and the Ascona Jazz Festival.

There are many routes for walking or mountain-bike activities on the hills by the lake for nature and sports lovers.

Stresa

This international tourist resort, situated in a central, but also panoramic and pictoresque position along the lakeside roadway, stands just in front of the Borromean Islands. Since the second half of nineteenth century up to the first decades of the twentieth when the first English tourists arrived, Stresa, whose hotels and villas built in Liberty style make it unique, assumed its peculiar, elegant look.

Poets and writers have described the Borromean Gulf as an enchanted place. It is famous worldwide for the beauty of its three islands, Isola Madre (“Mother Island”), Isola Bella (“Beautiful Island”) and Isola Pescatori (“Fishermen’s Island”).

You will be fascinated by the luxury and sumptuousness of the Borromean Palace on Isola Bella and the wonderful flowers of its Italian garden. Hundreds of different varieties of flowers and rare plants are waiting for you in the English garden on Isola Madre. The traditional fishermen's dwellings and the atmosphere of the past of Isola Pescatori will remain forever in your heart.

"Magical stay and wonderful hosts"

We were met by Valentina and taken to the apartment, which was delightful. We couldn't believe what we were getting for the price. The boys especially loved their attic room. We had a wonderful three day stay. The village is very quiet and quite beautiful. The apartment is well kitted out. We made particularly good use of the washing machine! We did suggest a toaster and an electric jug would be appreciated by visitors who like toast and tea for breakfast!
Someraro is some way up the hillside from Stresa so you do really need your own transport. Valentina speaks perfect English and gave us excellent advice on what to see and do and we really enjoyed meeting her mum and dad - dad built the apartment and did a fine job!
