Drive into Stratton, up into Church Square and step back in time. Located right in the middle of this charming village just a mile or so from the dramatic Atlantic coastline of North Cornwall, Drangway was once part of a 14th century manor house and has ancient beams, slate floors and metre thick walls. Combining character with modern facilities, Drangway makes a perfect base for a walking or touring holiday. With one double bedroom and one single bedroom it is ideal for a couple, two friends or a family with a child to use as their home for a week.

Packed with character and containing everything you need for a perfect break in a self catering cottage including a file with ideas for local walks, restaurants and cream teas, Drangway is our family's home away from home, so you will find games, a book and dvd library and a chilled atmosphere - the only mobile coverage is by sitting in the stone mullioned window seat of the double bedroom!

At one time the dining room at the cottage was a wine shop (run by my great, great aunt) and the cottage is quirky, full of character and packed with history. After a day on the beach, or walking, or exploring in your car, you can return, make yourselves a cup of tea and sink back into comfortable sofas and plan your next adventure!

The Dorset region

North Cornwall is a wonderful place to explore or revisit. Atlantic seas, majestic cliffs and stretches of golden sands where you can often find yourself sharing a beach just with the elements. Wild and dramatic in the winter and everything you could want from a seaside holiday in the summer. Inland are pretty villages and the wild expanses of Bodmin Moor just waiting to be explored. The coastline has long distance walking paths taking you over cliffs and down into hamlets often with a pub or tea room and always with an inspiring view of the Atlantic - nothing between you and America!

Further afield you can drive to St Ives and the Penwith peninsula or South Cornwall's sunken valleys filled with sailing boats and in between wild country dotted with the remnants of tin mining - overgrown slag heaps and ruined mine chimneys. The main town of Cornwall - Truro - is a lovely place to walk around with shops and a magnificent cathedral. Culturally, there is the Eden Project, fascinating at any time of the year and everywhere festivals of music, food and literature. Art is everywhere.

Cornwall is a county, usually much milder than other parts of England, with much to offer, whatever your preferences for a memorable holiday.

Stratton

Stratton is a village community just a mile or so from the seaside town of Bude and the Atlantic coastline. Once a very important place (the word Stratton comes from the Roman name for a street), there were four banks, lots of shops and pubs. Then Bude became important in Victorian times because of the newly built canal and Stratton gradually became a quiet, peaceful place filled with picturesque cottages set in winding streets and with an impressive church. A feeling of history, though, abounds.

Drangway is right in the middle of the village, facing onto the church square and dates from the 14th century, once being part of the manor house which was divided into three in the 18th century and extensions added at that time. So the cottage is old at the back and new(ish) at the front! You can walk from the door - lovely footpaths and lanes that take you around the local area, alongside streams, through hamlets and over hills giving wonderful views of fields and woods and distant sea.

Nearby, Bude has everything you need to make your holiday complete. Shops, restaurants, leisure centre, seawater swimming pool, supermarkets and, of course, beaches. There are two pubs and a village shop within walking distance of the cottage. The back bar at the Tree Inn serves good food and excellent local beers. You will find people are very friendly.

"A wonderful world away"

We loved the cottage, it was very cosy and the perfect getaway for a couple. It was equipped with everything that we needed and was situated in a sleepy Cornish village, an ideal location for a break.… More
